So there's some disturbing trends I've noticed here.

1) Tons of new altchains. Which, on the whole, is fine (despite my own personal objections to some of them)

2) Tons of new scam accusations as these altchains are released. Which, on the whole, is to be expected with new uncharted territory.

3) As far as I'm aware, there has been little or no increase in the number of people offering escrow services. For most (if not all) of these new altchains.

What I'd personally like to see if we, as a community, are going to rush headlong into TotallyNotAScamCoin that we should at least have a dedicated list of trusted escrow contacts before any trades are made. Like trusted Bitcoin escrow'ers who don't mind grabbing the client for a few of the new coins (since I assume they will all be traded for BTC, given current trends) and offer up their services in some kind of global altcoin escrow list.

I'd offer up my own name for such a service since I threw this idea out here, but have 0 escrow experience and no reputation as a result. So, instead, I'm throwing together a list of people willing to provide these services. If you'd like your name added to the list, post here or throw me a PM. Be sure to include:

  • The currencies you're willing to provide escrow for
  • Your Bitcoin-OTC account link (if you have one)
  • How you would prefer to be contacted. Such as an email address, skype, gchat, etc.
  • The fees you will be charging for escrow. Or lack thereof.
  • Any other additional information you'd like other users to know. Such as preferred chat times, explanations for high/low rep scores, etc.

List at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AibiuqEWnCPZdEN2NlBsUm9PQUoyelk2REVhd0hzSUE&usp=sharing (view-only for everyone but me, currently).

If you want your rep updated, toss me a link to the post where you were rep++'ed. If you have a complaint and want to rep-- an escrow'er, let me know. Hope this helps someone...

I usually have clients for most chains, but I would tend to want reasonable pay for my time, which would probably make the price too high for trivially tiny trades.

Hopefully soon either it will become trivial to slap up a Ripple gateway or it will be simpler to make Open Transactions smart-contracts that actually access blockchains. Either way, automation seems the economical way to go exceptmaybe for "reasonable sized" transactions. (Ones where paying a lawyer or doctor or accountant or sysadmin or systems-analyst type for an hour to handle a clerical task is a trivial expense compared to the size of the transaction, presumably.)

Automated escrow would be a dream come true. In lieu of that, would you like me to add your name to the list?

Um... Can you add me? lol

Added. Which altcoins do you plan to provide escrow support for?

Also, forgot to say that I'll do escrow for tips only until my rating on this site builds up. (It's only low because I use otc mostly, I have some older transactions from 2011 if you wanna dig deep)

Updated both your user pages.

Will be out for a little while here. Doing a nice dinner with the lady. However, I'll be back later to make this spreadsheet look much nicer.

Barnacle, thank you for the effort! I think this will serve as a great aid to help people avoid being scammed.

Hi, I would like to escrow.

You can maybe add an online thing.  And maybe the ability to set fees.  People go to the page, sees who's online.  Checks fees.  Look at their past rep.  And hopefully it'll lower the scam rate.  The scam rate is really high.  There are people scamming over 1.25 FTC.

I have 0 btc otc.  That doesn't mean I'm not trustworthy though.

That's a good idea. As this matures, I'll gradually add more features and add more data to the excel sheet. Hopefully it does turn into a proper site one of these days...but I'm going to be pretty busy for the next 2 weeks or so, and have a couple other projects on my plate already  Sad

You're added to the list. Can I get a list of the coins you're willing to provide escrow for?

I try sometimes  Smiley

Figured since I don't have the time/energy/cred to support escrow firsthand, I might as well try helping others start it up better.

Bump for visibility, since I see a lot of sale/trade threads on the frontpage.

Daily bump for visibility. Especially since "Yacoin" is now announced, and BitBar is coming under more criticism...escrow is IMPORTANT!
