If you have mad money to blow, go for it.  But these altcoins are highly unpredictable and extremely volatile.  Most of them you could ride all the way down to 1 satoshi, easily.  It's gambling.

Don't listen to the meatheads on this forum.  They will give you bad advice 9.9 times out of 10, and most of them just want to unload whatever piece of shit they're holding, so don't listen to them.

If it is on the top 10 on coinmarketcap.com, then you are buying an established alt.
Others are highly risky and susceptible to pump and dump. Go for it if the coin has an innovative idea, you believe in it and you have money to lose. Otherwise, avoid investing in random alts.

Many members there are very helpful, but don't listen them blindly, read between lines. For example this person have good knowledge and good moves, i'm following him years:

Many do not even investigate, just trade on exchanges and rely on their previous knowledge reading of charts. but this is not enough alts are specific, and needs much investigation, sometimes direct involving in discussions in their topics. Also always think logical, follow the flow of money.

Mostly people will advise you to buy those altcoins that are on the Top 10 list of Coinmarketcup. But for me before investing into an altcoin you have to do research first about that coin you want to invest into, if you think it has a potential to grow more and the project is doing good then go for it. Do not buy a coin just because everybody is telling you to buy.

check the volume first, check the value then, if it has good volume you can buy, if it is very cheap buy many, otherwise invest what you can afford to lose, check also the dev if it's active or a scammer that made the same copy paste altcoin, see his modus operandi

Simple way is only see exchanger price chart before buying an altcoin, replace your analyze and buy some coins. Before buy you need to replace your take profit and stop loss area. This is real market, make a good plan before buy some coins. That's my opinion & good luck.

The best way for me in buying other Altcoins was to look for the movements of Altcoins on some trading sites where you can see the sure movements of every coins if they are going up or down, i doing this I can get an idea if what Altcoin I'm going to buy for a trade, and because there are not enough news out there just like bitcoin that lets you know the current state of alts.

• Coin roadmap

If all the above seems good, just try to find a decent entry, and that's it.

HOLD and diversify your portfolio. The less moves you make the better.

When you have information about team, business model. e.t.c. do the action, or don't

P.S. Grate note that i found somewhere is to invest in what you believe, for example if coin price goes dooooown, you would still support that coin and keep your money there..

first, you need to check into coinmarketcap for the coins, see what the position of the coins, how is the trend of the coins, then you can check into the market. how much the volume of the coins, the price now, what conditions of the trend (is it up or down), how the position of order sell and order buy and more of this. you can search with your own before you buy the coins and be careful because sometimes if there is a big wall, you need to determine if its really down or up.

Before buying altcoin you should check the news about the coin on the forum or website (Fundamental)
Compare the coin price with another exchange, and see graphic on exchange

just spend some time and look at the charts! they can tell you more than any internet research, reading all the altcoin crappy announcements, paper ,... can tell you.

if you can't then learn it. it is an important part of trading.
all the things others said are true but in my opinion they are all in secondary importance to analyzing the charts.
look how they have been performing before, look if it is in a bubble, if the volume is showing any signs, if the orderbook is giving you any signs. look if you can see any whale getting ready to dump, ...

To buy an alt coin it need so many research, you need to know what is the purpose of the coin being created, search for the coin developer background, and see what is their next aim or next project, see the enthusiastic from investor from forums, if you feel satisfied then you can invest in that coin, do your research before invest don't just follow what people said
