The global cryptocurrency market cap has passed the $94 billion mark, breaking its previous record, nearing the $100 billion milestone.
Cryptocurrency Market Resumes Rally The cryptocurrency market is on a wild ride heading north and approaching $100 billion USD. Its market capitalization has broken its previous all-time high of roughly $90.7 billion, which was followed by a accentuated pullback that wiped out nearly $30 billion in value. Currently sitting at $94.6 billion, it has grown nearly 30% since last Monday. In other words, the crypto market has lost $30 billion in value only to regain it back, plus $4 billion more in a period of less than two weeks. http://bitcoinist.com/cryptocurrency-market-cap100-billion/

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

Gross sums do matter in aggregate that is a good sign of growth and development.

$100 billion market cap? I think you should open your eyes - currently the global market cap has surpassed the $200 billion already! It just shows how market caps are pure rubbish indicators. Seriously, look at these throwaway coins - MalCoin $36.7 billion market cap, and SolarCoin $29.8 billion market cap. At least Ethereum has some sort of a community behind it, capable developers, plus enough market movers. But the afore mentioned coins should be wiped out of existence immediately, that rubbish are they.

That's very harsh but I suppose it is not unfair. A lot of people are enjoying this ride on alts like those you mentioned and when it all falls apart people will be looking back to them and placing the blame there. It maybe is not helpful when you realise all those alts were mainly traded in BTC, helping pump it.

Exactly that. People don't look further than what they see, it's a normal thing here it seems. By default coinmarketcap.com shows only the value in circulating supply, while the total supply shows completely different statistics and values. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 1,000,000,000,000 supply coin pop up at some point. If you buy just 1 coin at $1, it will instantly give it a market cap of $1000 billion -- cheating for dummies.

For me $100 billion cap says something about how crypto currency is generating a lot buzz now. I don't know how many people are doing trading everyday, but the volume speaks for itself. And we can't just overlook this marketcap. It may sounds nothing to others, but for most of us, having this kind of a marketcap is really exciting to see.

$100 Bn is actually small when you look at global assets. People are talking about which individual stock will cross the $1 Tn market cap. And here an entire asset class is valued at $100 Bn. So there is a difference.
