I think I didn't understand your question fully. Do you mean how can one predict the alt's price considering current market capitalization? You is your question fully technical and basically about what marketcap is? If you mean the first thing, then nobody can calculate the price of an altcoin in the future, knowing current capitalization. One can just speculate. If your question is about calcucation of altcoin's price knowing capitalization then the answer is quite easy: marketcap = number of coins * price per coin is USD. Thus, you sort of could've calculated the alt's price knowing the number of coins and capitalization but the problem is that future capitalization is also unknown.

How do people calculate what could be the price depending on market cap?

For example, people saying that DGB will hit 1$ at 8billion market cap

This is only my opinion and it can be wrong 😀 , in crypto currency marketcap is not first things which can affect future price because any pump and dump schemes, so it's not make a natural growth. Here is some reason which can affect future price

1. Real Development
2. Community
3. Massive adoption
4. Inflation control

Let say Doge coin, doge coin also good coin and they have
1. Real Development
2. Huge community
3. massive adoption from online shop
4. But this coin not control their inflation (IMO), so as you know even doge marketcap is so big but doge but nowadays doge can not hit $1

If you see market cap, there are many coin which have market cap that DGB or doge, but they have price $1 per coin

Example

Nubits -> MarketCap  $200,904    Price $1.02
Biteur  -> MarketCap  $119,132    Price $1.13

I hope you understand my explanation

How do people calculate what could be the price depending on market cap?

For example, people saying that DGB will hit 1$ at 8billion market cap

market capitalization is just a simple number that is calculated by multiplication of price and available supply.
now with altcoins their supply can be manipulated, for example Ripple has a ridiculously high supply of 100 billion coins so with a small price its market cap is a big number.

now if you want to speculate how much the market cap is going to be you need to speculate how much price is going to be.

price will be greatly affected by the supply. for example when there is 100 billion coins available the price drops hard like in the case of Dogecoin which is ~100 satoshi and less.
but when the coin has a fake supply but its circulating supply is small the price can go higher because there isn't the same sell pressure.
for example coins like XRP and ETH that are on top have a massive supply but it is not all available to everyone. they are stored away out of reach and just affect the number known as market cap to stay on top of the ranking.

There are no ways to calculate the altcoins future price depending on marketcap, the marketcap can change every time and it is one of data to makes analisys fundamental of digital coins, but doesn't mean it will be work 100%,  if you want trading altcoins will be good start learn about analisys technical to makes prediction of price.

These are hopes and more just speculations because with this huge supply it is not possible in current times for any coin to reach at $1. It may be achievable and normal thing after 3-5 years when coins with supplies in billions will be able to get reach at $1 price. Just like 100 million coins are doing right now which was impossible thing last year.

Since most coins have no real world use, you can only monitor coins development and community. First cut of company owned coins that are not open source. Then if you will not see people arguing on reddit why something was made like this and not like that and crying that their life will end unless that will get changed, then that coin is not worth to buy at any price.

You hit it. A coin without an active trader is useless and can be consider as dead even if it has a high value. There is no method on calculating future value.

You can't.

There are other things you have to consider and you shouldn't solely rely on marketcap to predict the future. not that anyone can correctly predict it besides large investors or group of large investors.

It's impossible to predict price of any altcoin depend on marketcap Smiley. You should know that price of any altcoin doesn't depend on its marketcap only cause there are so many factors can affect to price of altcoin like project behind each altcoin, event, news, partner,...marketcap is nothing and it doesn't affect to price of altcoin Smiley

The formula to market cap is price multiply by supply. You are able to calculate the marketcap needed to reach certain price in this case. People usually try to forecast the price in the long term by guessing the market cap at that time.

logically you can not do that,you saw a lot of people did that just for fun.
but if you keep insisting to know about that,here is a simple way to do that ;
1.You need to set/know what will happen with Bitcoin and how far it will go.
2.Development(technology,system,and etc)
3.Demand
4.Total supply until that date

mathematically it should be like this ;
Bitcoin's ATH was $20.000(approx),total Market Cap's ATH $700 Billions and STR's ATH $0.7.
we're trying to figure out how far it will go(STR) when our Market Cap's Hit $1 Trillion ?
based on our history,when we're at $700 Billions Bitcoin reached $20.000 which means it must surpass that level because we're at $1 Trillion.
so it should be around $25.000(approximately,because total market increase for more than 30%).
Bitcoin's increase for more than 30% that date,also means every altcoin will get a pump too for more than 30%.
logically speaking,when Bitcoin gets pump for 5% altcoin will get pump at least for more than 6%++.
if Bitcoin reachs $25.000 and total market cap reachs $1 Trillion,STR's price should hit at least $1 because it needs to up at least for more than 30%.

How do people calculate what could be the price depending on market cap?

For example, people saying that DGB will hit 1$ at 8billion market cap
See the condition of the price and Market capitalization at the time then calculate according to your prediction target
For example; You want to know about, how much market capitalization should ACT achieve if your target price is $ 10 and with ACT conditions at the time

For example;  The current ACT price $1 and the current market capitalization $100,000,000
so the formula is; Your target price / the current ACT price "$10 / $1 = 10" then multiply that value with the current market capitalization "10 x $100,000,000 = $1,000,000,000" so if ACT prices hit $ 10 then ACT's market capitalization will also hit $1,000,000,000

Exactly; that's the reason why it's called speculation. You can use some kind of "ceteris paribus" formula, but even doing so, the output will be still imprecise as past events aren't a good indicator for future performance.

This is very simple to calculate coin price according to the Market cap. Just Divide the Market cap with the No. of supply of coin. But this is not any future prediction criteria. The predictions of price may be calculated by the demand & supply of coin.

you can't, this is like to predict the future!!
you can make estimates but is extremely difficult to predict future price.
you could use TA and recognise trends in action on many markets but when we talk about an exact price prediction... well it's almost impossible...

If there is 8 billion supply of coins when the market cap hits $8 billion the price would be $1. As market cap rises, there would be more demand for that fixed supply so the price would be higher.
