If you are reading the news on Coindesk and other news providing sites that is all about bitcoin, many merchants are now on the go in some countries, I think you are not seeing something like these maybe because bitcoin is not really accepted in your country such as U.S., Denmark, Sweden, South Korea, Japan, The Netherlands Finland, Canada, U.K. and on July 1 Australia is gonna officially accept bitcoin these are the list of I know of countries that are bitcoin friendly and Direct Transaction are possible.

Bitcoin in its current form just isn't a good currency tool in local situations, that's a fact. In that regard, the longer current situation doesn't change, the further away we move. That's why it's utterly important to have Segwit activated. It won't only allow Bitcoin to cope with current demand in a better manner, but it also means that we are closer to the implementation of Lightning Network - that for me is the ultimate target. I personally don't see any point in spending my coins on local level, but Lightning Network will make sure that the huge gap between fiat payment systems and Bitcoin will largely vanish. It will allow micro transactions to take place again without having to worry about greedy miners that will ignore your transaction till it drops...

many shops may accept bitcoin in the future as you have heard but i don't think we can ever see bitcoin be used to buy small and regular things such as coffee. specially not on chain.
maybe someday we see off-chain services such as web wallets like Coinbase and Xapo do something like that with bitcoin accounts.
or even possible to see it happen with Lightning Network but not on chain.

What you described will never happen (that is my guess). But I might be wrong.

We will just have to have and see what will happen on Aug 1. If this will solved the current higher transaction fees that we are experiencing. But if you are talking about being mass adopted, I think it has slowly gaining momentum as some countries are embracing bitcoin like local currency. You can check Japan. Australia is only on board on July 1 as well.

Who knows when we will see this. I am very confident that more and more merchants/stores will accept bitcoin for regular customer to buy online. We don't know where it will lead as bitcoin is still experimental if I may say this. On the other hand I don't see bitcoin to be used everywhere, as it just couldn't cope with it because of how it was code and the other thing is that you can only transfer funds if you have electricity and the internet.

But I do believe that it can be the universal internet currency and be used like that. Something like PayPal and other online processors. With bitcoin you don't trust anyone else you trust  the trustless system.

The reliable transaction fees of bitcoin worth more than just a cup of coffee.

This time bitcoin can't be considered as a micropayment, but just to safe you're economic to gets better privacy than trying to safe your amount outta here.

if there is any local store that accepting bitcoin, i think we can pay that product with only using QR code and pay with our bitcoin. but for now, i think there is only a few local store that wants to use bitcoin because bitcoin is not already accepted in most of the country especially in big country. but i believe that in someday, if there are many big country accepting bitcoin and allowing people for using bitcoin, then there will be local store that wants to use bitcoin as the payments. until that time is come, i think we only can use it in the internet to buy something or we can save it in our wallet.

At first,all expected that bitcoin payment will be accepted by most merchants due to its quick transaction and low transaction fees.But now in today's situation,with such a big transaction fee and very long time taken to confirm,its very hard for small merchants to accept bitcoin payment.Unless a solution is found for this problem,mass adoption of bitcoin payment by small merchants would become very hard.

My take:
If bitcoin core wins the scaling war, then the roadmap would be that current bitcoin blockchain will be base layer were only big and infrequent transactions take place (the settlement layer); then on top of that the plan is to implement another layer called the lightning network where all the cheap transactions take place at substantial increases in speed.  Once the lightning layer is operational then merchants and coffee buying  can take place but before this is in place I see it difficult; judging by the progress (idea started around 2015), I think it could be a couple of years at least before the lightning network becomes operational.

If the bitcoin dissidents were to win the war, then the cheap transactions and speed increases will occur by increasing 'block size' in the blockchain; which will see reduced transactions and increased speed in faster time-frame at the expense of increased centralization of the network later (which is dangerous as then the network is more susceptible to attack by external agents).

In either case, the war needs to be resolved first.  Perhaps this year;  it should be as soon as possible, because other blockchains are catching up fast.

Buying coffee with 'pure' bitcoin was never an option. This is not possible with on-chain transactions. The only way is to push scaling off-chain.
I expect that in the future with Lightning Network it will be possible.

Price of btc won't be a problem, ever. You can buy any amount of Bitcoin really, you are not limited to buy whole 1 BTC.

I believe some of you idea like buying a mug coffee with bitcoin  won't happen since the transaction price is way higher than the coffee we are buying and besides Bitcoin is not intended that way.  Though we can still buy bags of coffee with bitcoins online.  There are lots of shops that are accepting bitcoin now.  And if not directly, there are third party company that is happy to serve us as bitcoin processor and be able to buy us what we needed.

Buying small things with bitcoins like have a cup of coffee or grabbing something to eat on your way to work is currently absurd cause of the current transaction fee with increases the over price you pay for it. Bitcoin is not that popular when I started earning it, it is at price of $560 and not really interested on using it, just want to invest some of my money and gain profit. But while I am here in the forum, I've learned so much and read many things that changed that perspective, I want a place where I can use bitcoin to buy any where, but that will not be happening, with the unstableprice of bitcoin, only few stores will be accepting bitcoin. Paying a coffee is also hard to do, unless it is fixed in the future.I think another altcoin will be used to these kind of payment and not bitcoin.

I've read these too, the problem is, the rumours about these upcoming August and UASF, are they really planning to split the network? Why don't they just make another altcoin, no need to make bitcoin with these. Eventhough August is months away, these news is causing panic making users sell their bitcoins making another dump.
