I am a little confused about backup files for wallets that don't give you a seed, but instead asks you to do a backup file.

I have asked on reddit if you only need to make the backup of the file once or more often, and the answer I have got is Yes and No. So that is great and enlightening..

Also I read some security best practices on some site, I think it was for the Factom wallet: "Don’t forget to backup your wallet. Go to FILE > BACKUP WALLET. Best practice is to do this frequently onto several new or freshly formatted usb hard drives."

Since they say you should do it frequently I guess once is not enough? But it would also be strange if you need to do backups between every transaction to make sure you back up your coins? Confused.

No, you don't have to do it frequently. I have an android phone wallet and I backed up my wallet about 6 months ago, I never backed it up again. When I restore it, it restores the last value I had on my wallet (obviously). It is probably a warning for a situation where you lose the back up file, so it tells you to do it frequently. I keep my back up file on my google drive so I do not have to worry about it.
