BTC-e locked by account and is requesting a strange verification

I have a BTC-e account that I have not used since 2014, but I know I had a little bit of Bitcoin in my account.  I tried to login and it said the account had been locked since I have not logged in in a long time. 

I contacted support and they first said I need to send them a screenshot of the account I used to fund the account, but I responded that I sent it from Cryptsy, which is now defunct.  They next sent the following:

You need to send 2 images to us:
1) a scan of your passport in high resolution
2) a photo of yourself holding your passport close to your face. The passport needs to be open at page where it shows your photo and your personal information. In your other hand you should be holding a sheet of paper with the text written on it "For BTC-e" and current date.

All information in the passport needs to be readable. And your face must be clearly seen. The photo must be in high resolution.


Does this seem like a legitimate request to anyone?  Should I trust an unknown Russian company with all of my personal information on my passport?  Has anyone experienced anything like this from BTC-e?

That is standard kyc on every fiat/btc exchange right now.
Should you send some russians your ID + pic?

Btc-e.com is a good and legitimate trading website with millions of US dollars daily transactions in btc and other cryptocoin so they may probably not have anything to do with your funds.

What you needed to have done is to request for forgotten password which they will send to your email address and you shall be able to change your password and log in this is because btc-e account was ddos sometimes last year and email was sent to all users to change their password which i guess you did not do yours and someone might having trying to log into your account with so many failed attempt.

You can still do what i said about password reset, it might works.

It's one of the oldest exchanges, it's shady since it doesn't comply with KYC and their owners are anonymous yet it has been around a lot of time without major issues.

except use fiat money, or maybe you big balance in withdraw
over one year later iam active trade in there and my account without verification ID
