Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

It is cool indeed. I've been thinking about how this sort of thing is likely to work out, especially since hippich started his site.

It seems to me that prices based on content will not stay up. For example, I pay the fee to get the content, then I make a very similar site, but charge 50% less. Then someone who can host even more efficiently comes along and undercuts me, until we get down to around the cost of hosting.

One solution is to charge a largish one time fee to all users collectively. So Kiba puts out a new sketch and says I want 50BTC for this one, here is the address. Everyone can see how much has been sent to the address and once the full amount is received, the content is free and available to everyone in the world to share with whomever. No threats, no DRM, content creator still gets paid, granted mostly based on the quality of previous work.

Reputation would help a lot with a system like this, but for some things previews would work well too. Anything in a series would be perfect, cartoons, serial dramas, chapters of a book, etc.

So, can you add that to what you have? It seems simple, whatever opens access now can be triggered for everyone once the total sent to the address crosses a threshold.

simple: artist can decide whether to take what's been collected and release the file, or return all contributions and keep the file to himself.

Implemented your suggested feature, and I'm putting it up for collective payment.

Very cool, don't have much time to experiment right now. Sent a small tip though.

Hey all,

Decided to go public domain with the source code, which I still intend to maintain and add features to.

Enjoy.

I barely understand what you're talking about.  But it sounds great and very useful. I really like the "donation thermometer" bar idea too!
I hope you'll continue developing open source tools.  I'm sending a tip now.
Two things things high on my wish list are:
An android app- which acts as a front-end for MyBitcoin and/or MtGox accounts,  and adds features especially useful for mobile ("coffee shop") payments.   Like QR Code scanning for Bitcoin Address, Contacts Addressbook integration for Bitcoin Addresses (both in & out addresses), automatically transmitting Bitcoin Address from one user of app to another user of app via email instantly (email works with internet regardless of whether Wi-Fi or cellular ).

Also, some implementation somewhere of Scheduled Recurring Payments.  ....so merchants can easily use it for monthly subscription type payments.

Be sure to look at what features MyBitcoin.com already has.  No reason to reinvent the wheel. Right?

only if the first wheel wasn't open source Wink

I think this would make a great film. All sorts of basic things like wheels and fire and refrigeration are patented in some alternate universe and everyone goes about life like this is normal and right.

Or a film where a duplication machine is created and a group fights everyone who duplicates stuff they made.

We have the thing-o-matic that function as a sort of first generation duplication technology in our universe already.  Grin
