There is no problem if you join bounty campaign because you will not lose your money. But for people which participate in ICO it is a big problem.

it is not because of the lack of update that they decided to leave but because of the scam accusation. participants dont want to risk if as early as this, accusations are already spreading, they simply want they their efforts will not be useless. besides there are so many ico that they feel like if they join, there will be a sense of security that their efforts will be worth it.
