did you include a transaction fee? And if so, was it of the correct amount?

You should have added transaction fees to make it near instant.

This.  I think that it will just take a while to confirm if at all.  Lesson learned and you'll be able to fix it next time so no worries there.

If you find a block, I'm pretty sure you can force it in with a modified client, guess you gotta wait though.

Yes. But you can attempt a double spend as long as its unconfirmed i believe

Not really, you can finney attack the coins to a different address, but honestly it's the same amount of work that it would be to confirm it at its current transaction. You can't double spend it the traditional way because the network has this transaction pending already.

Sure it is.  There are mining pools that have added transactions to the blocks they were working on in exchange for a bounty.

If that's what you are trying to do, you should try contacting the operators of some of the larger mining pools and seeing if there is a particular fee they would require to do the work of ensuring your transaction gets mined/confirmed.

Actually, you have to add it to the block you are working on before you solve the block.  Once you (or a mining pool) has solved it, it's too late to modify the contents of the block.  Doing so would require that you start over trying to solve it.

I believe there is a "timeout" of sorts.  I know of transactions that have been kicked back after a few days.  I do not know the details of this though.

I have run into this problem before I believe. You can use the RESCAN command from the command prompt of bitcoin client to reprocess/resend your transaction for network confirmation.
