So many posts about melting connectors and fires. Who here is NOT using the riser power from the 6-pack cards. And who here is? Feel like should be a community safety hazard.

If you are using 6-pin PCI then you must have a PSU dedicated to just powering your risers?

And all the risers I find are only 4-pin male molex. And all the cables I can find are 4-pin male molex too. Am I searching for totally the wrong thing?

On NewEgg I went through all their risers and every one is a molex to sata connector. Why are there not more fires???

You mean the Sata to molex cables?

If so, they're fine as long as:
 - you don't connect more than 2 GPUs to a single cable coming from the PSU;
 - you don't use cards that are very hungry on the PCI-E front. For example overclocked GTX 750 Ti without 6-pin or any card reflashed with a badly configured BIOS.

Not your keys, not your coins!

Yes those cables. Plan on 4 570s on a 750W dedicated PSU. So two cards get their own molex and two cards have to share. But so many posts saying this is a bad idea......

No because unlike many I have to have a six or seven card rig miner

I have 3 and 4 card rigs  with 1 riser or no risers at all.

three card riser free 1700 sols for zec at 550 watts

four card 1 riser

If you under volt your card why can you not use a 8pin femal to 2 x 6+2 pci-e splitters?

I don't use them on most of my rigs, only when necessary

Do you mind sharing what you use then exactly? I'm having a heck of a time find the right adapter that doesn't require more adapters to make it all work.

I use Molex to Sata type risers exclusively since they are cheaper than 6-pins. New Molex risers are built just like 6-pin risers in quality.

For quality risers, splitters or 133 CFM fans, please visit my eBay listings,

But the power provided on the molex\sata rails is low compared to the draw of the riser I thought.

I prefer to use the risers with the 6 pins PCI connector, and directly connected to the PSU.

Somewhere here I read, each peripheral port on ATX PSU is rated for up to 150 watts. Each port can safely power 2 risers Smiley
