Always - 30% BTC, 20% USD + 50% forks + amount of USD not to miss some opportunity to buy

Hello!
Can you a bit explain, why you choose any coin for investment?

For example, I am prefer coins with strong, unique ideas.
Here are some that i like, and explanation why:

Augur - Decentralized prediction platform
MaidSafeCoin - Massive Array of Internet Disks, The SAFE network takes all the Internet services currently available today and decentralizes them
Dash -  First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency. Anonymouse transactions.
Monero - Anonymouse transactions.
Zcache - Anonymouse transactions, based on zero knowledge cryptography
Golem - accessible-to-everyone, distributed, supercomputer that reduces costs of scientific research

Try to give a short explanation, don’t shoot the messenger crypto lovers, just a newbie, while learning there can be some mistakes…

Ethereum:

Smart contracts

Developing of DAPP’s (decentralised applications) and DOA’s (decentralized autonomous organization)

Within Ethereum you can program, develop, arrange etc, without interference of a third party.. possibilities are endless…

Some examples: Golem, Wings, Aragon, MyEtherWallet….

Big alliance supporting Ethereum: Microsoft, Intel, JP morgan…..

Factom:

What Ethereum is to smart contracts en DAPP’s is Factom to data

Storing, sharing and securing data

Support from the Bill Gates foundation, Smartrac, US department of Homeland security

Stratis:

Similar to Ethereum, DAPP’s and smart contracts

A difference is that Stratis uses the C# language to develop (making use of the Microsoft.net framework), app’s will run on Stratis sidechains

Stratis platform also helps to update the bitcoin network. Breeze wallet for Bitcoin will soon come out as well. Watch out for this !

Golem:

Ethereum based Worldwide supercomputer, the new internet?

Promising and could be something really big.. Some clones around the corner already…

Maidsafe:

As you say massive array of internet disks

Safe network, decentralised and secure, LONG term project :p

Keep an eye when the safe network lauches…

Ripple

People like it or people dislike it

Centralized, p2p payment network with XRP as coin

A lot of big banks do already use the ripple network, namely to complete cross border transfers as very fast

While the ripple network is really interesting, what about the currency XRP ?

It’s not because banks do use the ripple network, that they are going to use XRP, they don’t have to, they can use their own currency

So the BIG question, to invest or not to invest…

Digibyte

Decentralized payment network and digital currency

Much faster then Bitcoin, more secure then Bitcoin

Competitor to GAME Credits

Keep an eye on tomorrow 9/06, big conference in Singapore where DGB is a finalist for the citi group challenge

Lisk
Application platform for JavaScript developers

Waves

Decentralized exchange

Fast, low cost and scalable

FIAT transfer EUR USD BTC

Possibility to create your own token

Smart contract Q4 2017

Wings

Ethereum based platform for the creation and funding of Decentralized Autonomous Organisations (DAO)

Edgeless

Ethereum based decentralised casino
Blackjack
Video poker
Micro limits dice
Sports betting
Platform for developers

Edgeless? Really ?

Just changed my verge into this coin so I still have to dig a bit deeper…

Very instructive explanation, thank you! Smiley
I have a bit criticism for Digibyte and Waves:
I think faster transactions, decentralized exhcnages, smart contracts isnt enough, because there are many crypto-currencies that also provides this features, and make it much earlier than others.
But I agree with you about other coins, going to research them and may be include in my portfolio too.

Did you consider stellar lumens? They are potential 10x risers.

I like some of the picks but think a lot are based on speculation. I like Monero because of their track record and high privacy factor while at the same time are being used for their purpose. Lykke is interesting and probably my next addition to my portfolio. Hope you do well and good luck  Smiley.

Well... Steem...

That was the first coin I invested in, 100 off Steem.

Now... I messed it up :p

I noted my password on just a paper, I still have the paper though but it seems I made a mistake in writing it down... I already tried several of hundreds of combinations but I can't find to seem the right solution...

So I have Steem, I have an account on Steemit but I can't transfer the money.. Looks like I have paid some "learn money" to get familiar with crypto..

Lesson learned? Make back ups but not just on a single piece of paper witch can contain lots of human mistakes...

I'm still not giving up on the password but it seems like a mission impossible...

I didn't mention the Steem in my portfolio because I see it as lost Smiley

Ouch! I'm sorry you lost access! That said, it is controlled via a website with an email or facebook link or some kind of external connection. (It required facebook originally from what I understand but worked with just an email when I signed up)   So.. you may be able to recover or reset your steem account, if you still have access to whatever other account you used. You can also try contacting the devs directly - they do help reset things, for example when a user posts a private key publically (I almost did lol)

If this info helps, please remember me when you're rich. ;>

Re: storing many many altcoins: There are multi-coin wallets. Just be careful, watch for viruses and malware, etc. I could use suggestions for a good one.

Contact support of Steemit lacks... Still didn't give me an answer.. After several days I tried the Steemit chat, where I did recieve an answer from Tim, an answer that was clear, that he could not help me to recover my account.

I can still log in with my posting key, I can see my Steem but I can't tranfer it..

Just imagine... that in a couple of years you see that you have several of thousands in your account but you can't take them... Smiley

There could maybe be a possibility to brute force but that's something I can't... I have the pasword, pbb 1 or 2 mistakes i  it.. not sure..

SO if someone can help me with this or has some advice...

Ouch that sucks. I'm sorry for your loss. Sad

The only thing I can think of is to try contacting them again if it's been more than a few months, or try brute-forcing the password some more.

It might be saved in another browser too, or it might be a different password, if you have something else that might be it.

I remember there's a transaction private key that's separate from the main login, if you can get into your wallet then you may be able to view that private key.

If all else fails, you could always make a new Steem acct, post as much info as you have about the old account, and make it a "hax my old account" contest. XD

I'm doing a small sampling of altcoins to see how things are going:

DigiByte, Edgeless, Factom, Golem, Stellar, Stratis, XEM, and Ripple. (and btc, eth, and ltc for the big ones) What do you all think?

Never took it into consideration yet...

There just so many coins/ projects running. It makes it really difficult to be informed about all.. Also picking out the good most promising ones with every individual having an own opinion.. I'm feeling like a fish in the ocean Smiley

Because of that I thinks it's really important to diversify and not put all your money on one project..

I'm aware that some of my picks will fale.. but that the big winners will cover the losses pretty easy Smiley

Haha.. That could be a nice contest but one ending up with someone ripping my Steem  Grin

To get access to the private active key, I need to log in with my password as well or private owner key.. To get access to the owner key I also need the password.. Stuck stuck stuck...

Why the hell all those paswords anyway ?  Tongue

Imo it's to complicated for the average person, if they want to "overtake the world" they have to simplify those passwords.. To many people are going to have problems with it...

That would be a nice portfolio !

I do not have XEM on my list because it's already having such a big market cap and I'm afraid I missed the train.. but I do like it very much !

OMG

Look what mail I just received from coinpayments....

I have 0 Ripple left....

Dear ,

It is with deep regret we must inform you of an error we discovered in our Ripple service on June 5th, 2017 that allowed a few users to withdraw excessive XRP from hot wallet XRP accounts. Our records show that you are one of the users affected by this unfortunate activity. The issue was hard to detect because of the rarity of circumstances where it could happen. We have done a full review of our systems and added additional checks and protections to make sure similar issues don't occur in the future.

This isolated incident is the first of its kind on our platform and affected only ripple wallets which were not taking advantage of our long-term coin storage solution, the Vault. The people who exploited the glitch were not hackers, but other long term users of our service who made errors or chose not to report the discovered issue and ended up withdrawing other client’s XRP. Their detailed personal information has been collected and they all have been contacted to return the funds immediately. We are in communication with some already and reclamation process has begun with the help of our lawyers. Early response indicates that honesty appears to be prevailing. Some of the funds have already been returned and through a series of escalating steps we will be making every effort to ensure the XRP is returned to its rightful owners. We will be working diligently with local and international authorities for the safe return all balances and will proceed with criminal prosecution of those who do not return the funds willingly.

Your patience is greatly appreciated as we work through this matter. Note that your balance has been updated to reflect your new balance. Our support staff will not be able to give any information regarding the situation or adjust your Ripple balance.

We would like to remind everyone that any coin stored for an extended period should always be Vaulted. This service is free and offers the highest level of protection for any funds kept online. Additionally, we will dedicate 1/4 of our revenue flowing directly to effected users until we restore all of the missing value in their accounts. All coins recovered will be evenly distributed among all accounts effected as those come in.

 Sincerely,
 Alex Alexandrov

I wondered why Coinpayments had Ripple disabled. XD

At least they say they'll reimburse you. It was probably an unintentional glitch or bug rather than malicious.

Withdraw (or vault) your coins regularly.

Maybe they face some problem with ripple may be when converting from other currency to XRP. Previously I made a transaction with coin payment but i never faced any problem with coin payments. I hope the issue will be resolved very soon.

Some people are trying to gain in BTC while others try to gain in euros.

If you are looking to measure your returns in euros (or similar) then you'll have to watch not only the price of your holdings but also the price in BTC. A large swing in price on BTC would potentially very heavily affect a return in euros across the portfolio so be sure to factor both long and short on the coins plus the long and short on your exit.
