http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1dp4c4/why_the_us_government_have_likely_already/

tl;dr Bitcoin is a dirty plot  covert tool invented by CIA (some pretty good arguments)

PS, don't blame me, I'm just the messenger.

PPS, put on tin foil hat b4 reading.

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

Tin foil hat indeed.  My favorite comment:

I think that Bitcoin is a collaborative project - possibly originating within DARPA, the NSA, or some other government agency. Japanese names are written family name first, thus "Nakamoto Satoshi". Look at the first letters of the name: N..Sa. Nakamoto means "central region". Satoshi means "wise, fast learner" = intelligence. Thus you can interpret the name as meaning "central intelligence".

The clues are there in the name.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if that were true?

Its too obvious for the CIA. All the evidences point to Bitcoin being developed by the KGB and leaving clear clues pointing to the CIA as a cover up.

Pfft.  Really, hugolp - you're so naive.

It's pretty obvious that Shin Bet has infiltrated the Chinese MSS, and is pushing a couple of Chinese sleeper agents in MI6 to mount a pro-bitcoin operation in Saudi Arabia.  The upshot of which - of course - will be that all of the terrorist cells around the world will start to use bitcoin and force the US to killswitch bitcoin domains.

Why?  Simple:  there's a new Tor protocol that, coincidentally, runs on network-enabled ASICs; allowing the Navy to slice a little bandwidth off every Tor/internet connection.  This will allow them to mine enough bitcoin to pay Shin Bet for the latest intelligence on the Chinese.

I think it's definitely a possibility that the government created this.  The more I read about bitcoin and deeper I get into it, the more I realize there was so much forethought on everything.  It just seems too well done to have been created by one person.

I figure it's either the government or a time travelling wizard.

S.E.A.T.O. never disbanded. It became the global intelligence arm of the Illuminati. Satoshi Nakamoto is the chief spymaster. They influence every clandestine and criminal agency. Bitcoin was created to bring them all together as they become dependent on using Bitcoin for their spy games. Nakamoto controls the manufacturing of all the mining hardware and has secret backdoors in the chips for tracking all transactions. Even the TOR network depends on his hardware for encryption.

Any significantly advanced cryptocurrency is indistinguishable from Ponzi Tulips.

It's not a good idea to talk about "the CIA" because as Iran Contra showed there are plenty of semi-autonomous offshoots that are really just groups of people within intelligence agencies doing whatever they please. I don't know if I buy the idea but it's a possibility among many others. Especially if the CIA types thought Wall Street was getting too strong.

Governments trying to reap all the credit for the invention of other people as usual. Why the CIA? Why not China, Russia, UK or Japan? For all we know Satoshis real name could be Ivanov and he could have been finishing up the protocols while taking sips from a bottle of vodka  Roll Eyes

Me too.  If in doubt and a conspiracy theory is needed, dust off your copy of "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" and blame the Jews.  Then sit back and marvel at how many people agree with you.
