I hope you don't mind a newbie question.

Years ago I had a wallet with instawallet.org.  After they shut down I went through the claims process and I now have a refund address.

How do I go from that to actually seeing a properly setup wallet in front of me?

thanks!!

Limited in number. Limitless in potential.

So what do you want to ask here? I don't get what you mean a little bit.
If you're asking if what wallet you have to use, I must suggest that you use a wallet in which you have the access of your private keys such as like electrum desktop wallet and Mycelium for your mobile if you have.
