Electrum for Litecoin is here https://electrum-ltc.org/

Dont know if you were talking about one electrum wallet which functions send/receive to multi-currency.

there are a lot of projects for altcoins based on electrum (none of them have anything to do with ThomasV as far as i know, they are simply forks of electrum).
but sadly most of them don't get enough attention and some are abandoned.
the projects i know
electrum-ltc https://github.com/pooler/electrum-ltc (very active: last commit: 29 days ago)
reddcoin-electrum https://github.com/reddcoin-project/reddcoin-electrum (seems dead last commit: 2014)
electrum-doge: https://github.com/electrumalt/electrum-doge (dead: last commit: 2014)

it may be because running an electrum server for altcoins is hard and takes up a lot of space (i may be wrong about this part though).

There was a project in 2014-2015 named Encompass (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1067166.0) which was based on Electrum codebase, and that could handle 5 different coins at the same time (BTC, LTC, DASH, MZC and VIA)  all with the same mnemonic!  Something similar as hardware wallets do.  More coins could be added by a simple addition of a file and repackaging everything - instructions were provided).  It worked pretty well.  It used the same servers as the stand alone Electrum clones for each coins.

The project was abandoned in 2015 due to lack of interest from the community - but the code is still available on Github:  https://github.com/mazaclub/encompass

I disagree.

I rather have a qualitative wallet for BTC than a somewhat shitty one for multiple currencies.
There are enough wallets for shitcoins already, even forks of electrum.

There is no need for some BTC wallet developer to focus on implementing other coins which the majority of electrum user simply does not need.
I'd rather have (even more) additional features than support for shitcoins,.

If you want a multi-curreny wallet, choose one of the ones already existing. But keep in mind that they will never be able to be as feature-rich as a pure single-currency-wallet.

it wouldn't take that much focus though specially if the developer of such wallets focused mainly on copy coins such as litecoin or even less obvious ones. the similarities between different cryptocurrencies are so much that makes writing most parts of a the wallet trivial.
i agree that Electrum will never and should never do it because it is a bitcoin focused wallet.
