Use GPUs to mine LTC (or its scrypt-clones). You could use a CPU, but it's not worth the effort, since GPUs are just that much more effective.

cgminer (with the --scrypt flag) will do the trick for AMD cards, cudaminer for Nvidia cards.

Yes, GPUs are still more effective than CPUs for scrypt mining. You can use a miner like cgminer to mine them, just enter your litecoin pool info.

GPUs are much faster and efficient. However, due to the nature of the scrypt algo, the gap between CPUs and GPUs should be smaller.

Yes. FPGA and ASIC can't currently mine scrypt as it's very memory and energy/heat heavy. Personally I think AMD will always outpace scrypt FPGA and ASIC development just as byproduct of gaming on a $/k/h basis.

Some are looking now to develop FPGA's for scrypt but I think by the time they get it to market AMD will have HD 9000 series out with x4 the amount of shaders as now and 50% less power consumption.

Lots and lots and lots of GPU's, motherboards, cpu, psu's and ram

GPUs are by far the best way to mine LTC coins. Compared to CPU, GPU is more efficient per watt and per dollar. Plus you can put 3+ GPU in a lower end but not to shabby motherboard, there are no lower end or even mid/high end mother boards I know of where you can put 3+ CPU, 2 seems to be the max for many, unless you start looking into servers and even there 2 is pretty close to the max.
