Do I understand it correctly that for mining there are basically 2 types of cryptocurrencies and their clones

SHA 256   Bitcoin, clones
SCRYPT    Litecoin, clones

and if I build a rig lets say for Litecoin I should be able to freely switch between other SCRYPT currencies without affecting hash speed?
Same for SHA 256 and bitcoin clones?

thanks everyone
