Topic title.
I see for me, as for miner, 3 options only:

  • 1. Buy ASIC to mine SHA256 [Bitcoin]
  • 2. Make rig with Nx7950, for example, for scrypt mining
  • 3. Wait and check news

Share your thoughs please! Thank you.

Scrypt mining for Litecoin should always be profitable until a high-memory intensive ASIC comes out for it. You can also mine other alt coins such as TRC, NMC, PPC, IXC, NVC, etc. BTC mining with GPUs will no longer be profitable in two weeks.

I believe even then it will still work out. The ASIC will be expensive and its power only a maybe 4-5 times increase over GPUs, different from the 50-60 times increase in SHA-256.

True. Such a memory-intensive ASIC would use a lot of power. Speed-intensive ASICs such as Avalon's chips dont require much power as they dont have loads of hard memory being utilized. Scrypt is "ASIC-Proof" as you need large amount of resources to run its math, instead of brute force math. Basically a scrypt ASIC would be a device with Terabytes of memory, and such a device won't be power efficient.

Of course, you never know how much graphics card performance will go up, with each new generation.

Bitcoin prices will also fluctuate in value.

At current difficulty level, if the price goes down to 15 bucks, graphics cards will not be able to compete because of power used.

Not sure about the litecoin thing though.

Graphics cards are always bound to go up in price though.

That's the best way to go in my opinion. Or wait for scrypt ASICs.

I say both. Max out your power circuits on GPU, then get ASIC to get better density.

GPUs will still be functional at 30%, so its up to you to determine maxed out.

Yeah mining litecoin is a good !dea.

Difficulty skyrocketed though. I'd go feathercoin or minicoin to be honest.
