Not according to articles. They are purpose built and use different mobo and card connections,

Looks to me like they built it for test comparison not for selling them.

Its modifed 8 Pci-e mobo. And these miners are like Panda. But they are sold out. As most of them use Rx480 which are sold out. Gues you have to wait for that 13 pci-e slot mobo.

Link? Since this is a nvidia program, I find it  hard to believe it will be using RX480's

If I have 2 different GTX 1070, one from ASUS (dual) the other from Gigabyte, is it going to work together in one mining rig?

I want to add gtx 1080 in the near future, is it going to work then?

Yes and yes. You can even combine nvidia with AMD cards in same rig but then would struggle with finding best drivers and setting up the mining software.
