Hi guys since it is almost impossible to have amd cards for a mining rig i am left with 1060 or 1070?

Which would be a better buy? 6 1060 or 3 1070 and 1 1060 rig?

I know the hashrates but what i dont know are the power consumption of both cards. So i cant really tell which is better.
Electricity in my country costs .22usd per kwh.

Which is a better buy thanks?

if you aim to buy to mine eth 1050 or 1060 are the better as hashrates scales good with the price spent  and power consumption

eg :1 1050 ti hashes 14 - 16 mh/s power 30-50w

1 1060 3gb costs 50% more but hashes also 50% more and consumes also 50% more ( 19 mhs 60w  22 mhs 70 w 85w 23- 24 mhs)

1070 will has at aroun 28 but will cost 2x 1060 and will consume also  30  - 50% more

so for eth better smaller cards from nvidia

for other algos then all scales pretty the same so you can chose if you want density for a premium or if you want lot of rig to administer and pay a lil less

If you have more rigs, that means you're paying for more motherboards, CPUs, RAMs, racks and power supplies.
It might be more cost-effective to get more expensive cards.

right now im not considering the 1050ti because some say it can only do 100 sols on zec miners. Zec will be my alternative once eth goes POS

yep so now im stock with 6 1060s or 3 1070 plus 1 1060 since it will cost the same here  in my country

Get 6x 1080 Ti for best density and no need for extra components. That's what I ordered for six rigs.

hmmm i cant. im waiting for the restock of rx 570 or 580 cards.
but right now i cant resist to add a mining rig since eth is nearing 400 dollars.

so for the mean time im going to go for 1060 or 1070s

don't buy cheap card that hash low 1060 is not good now, buy expensive oen that have higher density and hashrate because the profit is very high roi is fast

how do you power that with dual psu or single 1500watt? is that enough?

but a 6x 1060 mining rig will outhash 3x 1070 and 1x 1060 rig.

im just concerned with power draw since it might change which rig will earn higher

the price for cpu ram and motherboard and rack is very minimal. and with lesser cards you will save a lot on psu....   doesnt matter what careds you buy up to  the 1070  the price of the system (including risers psu and rack) will be roughly 25 - 33 % the cost of the cards :

eg

cpu ram mobo risers  for 1060 to 1050ti will be roughly 115 EUR  for a 5 gpu system

psu 89 eur (750w 80+ gold)

for 1070 you will need much more juice so psu alone will cost roughly the double if not triple.

Dang it now it is hard to choose. If a 1050ti uses 75w i can mine 6x on a 650w. Wonder how much watts a 1060 consumes

I'm thinking about buying 6x 1070 MINI. Does anyone know if these cards are good for mining? I'm worried about the cooling system and overclocking capabilities.

What can you dual mine with a single GTX 1070?

don't worry. they are totally ok if you supply enough fresh air form them. just put a ventilator/fan in front of the rig and let it blow through.
i have 6x Gigabyte Mini ITX OC in a closed chasis and they r doing fine with 65-70 degrees celsius Tongue

You can always invest in some special cooling for better results.

1500W would probably be fine if you under volt them but I don't really care about power so I'll be overclocking them and use a separate 2400W server PSU (2400W is way too much but they're not that expensive anyway).

Where do you get those server PSUs? I have never heard of using that for GPU mining.

You still need a regular PSU to power the motherboard, CPU etc though.

Hi guys since it is almost impossible to have amd cards for a mining rig i am left with 1060 or 1070?
Which would be a better buy? 6 1060 or 3 1070 and 1 1060 rig?

I have both 1070's and 1060's in separate rigs mining Ether, and here are my settings and results with stable 24/7 mining:

GTX 1060 6GB
No chassi fully open build.
NVIDIA driver 382.05
MSI Afterburner power limit 60%, core clock +150, memory clock +750.
With Claymore miner 9.7, the hashrate is 20-21 MH/s and power draw is 103 watt. Temperature at 64 degrees celcius. Fan speed at around 40% (pretty silent).
Efficiency level 103/20 = 5,15 W/MH

GTX 1070 8GB
In a big tower chassi.
NVIDIA driver 382.53
MSI Afterburner power limit 60%, core clock +150, memory clock +700.
With Claymore miner 9.7, the hashrate is 29-31 MH/s and power draw is 130 watt. Temperature at 66 degrees celcius. Fan speed at around 44% (fairly silent but audible in my room).
Efficiency level 130/30 = 4,33 W/MH

So... depending on how fast you want ROI, your budget, watt prices and other factors such as power supply unit(s) needed, wife complaining about noice level and heat etc Grin, you need to decide what you think suits you best.

Personally, I really like the 1070 cards for their power/MH efficiency level and low noice. I've been able to buy my 1070 cards for around 490 USD on second hand markets (unused retail price is 650 USD in my country).

Hope this post helps. Cheers and good luck!
/Arch

PS. I previously had GTX 970's and I got an efficiency level around 7 W/MH (17-19MH/s).
