If you're not in a hurry, you could simply choose a lower fee.

I don't know how many inputs you have and that's the number of satoshi/byte intended to pay as tx fee, but if your transaction doesn't have many inputs (faucets) you can do better with a proper local wallet.
So if you can export your private key(s) and import into Electrum you have a good chance to pay (much) less.

Education time:
1) Any kind of decentralized cryptocurrency is extremely inefficient. Meaning, this isn't a problem inherent to Bitcoin.
2) The fees are determined by: a) Block space scarcity. b) Block space demand. As we all should know, Bitcoin provides around 144 MB of block space per day. For this example, let's label block space as A and block demand as B. There are two (three) cases:
2.1) A > B = fees are going down.
2.2) A < B = fees are going up.
2.3) A ~= B = fees are stable and we have reached an equilibrium (I've yet to see this happen in practice).
3) You may be wondering at this point that determines the fee that you have to pay. So, building upon point 2, there is a thing called recommended fee-rate¹ and is usually denominated in satoshis/byte or satoshis/kB. At this time, the recommend fee-rate for fast inclusion is 390 satoshis/byte This means that a median transaction (1 input and 2 outputs) requires ~88k Satoshis (~0.8$).
4) The recommended fee-rate is a direct result of the fee market. If I, as an individual, want to take up 90% of the block space and want to pay a fee up to 1000 satoshis/byte, you can't stop me. This is the nature of the system.
What can you do?
1) Do not use web wallets or any kind of wallets that limit your fee settings. Use Electrum² if you need a light wallet, or Bitcoin Core³ (recommended) if you need a full wallet.
2) Consolidate UTXO (outputs) during times when there is almost no congestion. As an example: Transactions with 0-50 satoshis/byte were processing pretty quickly the past weekend.
3) Pay less and wait more. The amount you pay (which you can pick in the wallets that I've recommended) in combination with the fee-rate tiers (see superscript 1) determines how long you will wait for a confirmation (estimate).
4) Support Segwit⁴ and tell your local miners to do so.

The fees is voluntary and it's not the network error, it's the miner that are getting excessively greedy, before if the network is not crowded the standard fees could pass but now it's 100s/b at all times, even when there are few tx's pending.

I agree the developers should do something, either a 2 mb per block or whatever, but have to solve this, people are using ETH just to get around the fees.

Although, the fee has been high in recent times but its not supposed to be this crazy but there could be several reasons for this as other have rightly suggested which I am going to tend towards the fact the amount you are intending to send is cumulation from several addresses with micro balances as this could be the reason for this high fees.

It's just blockchain congestion mate. It's how things are at the moment.

If you don't feel confortable with paying a $8 fee - don't. Pay a smaller fee and use the Antpool or Viabtc transaction acceleration services which are both free to accelerate your transaction. But this comes with risks, your transaction may never confirm if the transaction accelerators don't work, or you might have to pay more in future to get the same transaction confirmed.

It's fairly standard for each input to cost around 0.001 BTC these days. You must have been away for a long long time because this is barely news by now.

I noticed the same, few days ago, 5€ for moving 50€ in BTC from my wallet to an exchange...

That's why you can change the fees but be carefull because smaller fees will greatly increase the transaction time.
In my case, when i putted 0.0005 BTC as fee, my transaction took nearly 3 days ! with 0.001 BTC it took a few hours.

It's a matter of balance between your imperatives, patience and the money you are ready to waste in exchange of time.

Welcome to the new Bitcoin world bro. I deposited 0.03 Bitcoin earlier in nitrogensports using my coins.ph i had to choose from 3 transaction from low, medium and high priority, i chose low priority and it cost me 0.001 Bitcoin, medium priority will cost 0.003 Bitcoin and high priority cost 0.009Btc. I chose the low priority because the site only needs 1 confirmation before my deposit reflects to my account.

Guy's i am not a newbie around here, i work with bitcoin for 2 years now.
I know how i can change the fee, lower or higher, doesn't matter.
Point is, if this is how the blockchain will handle my transactions with this kind of fee i am out.
Even with many outputs i haven't paid this kind of fee, never! Made around 255 transactions.
I am not stupid, i am shocked about this high fee.
And if this kind of fee will be normal to pay i am out of Bitcoin.

There many others coins with better rates.
