Why does everyone think China is/was in the dark about bitcoins? Who is to say that China could have their own bitcoins they have enough people to support it?
One can plot the Google Trends volume for the bitcoin hieroglyphs and a similar volume worldwide indicator, like "mtgox". You will soon find out that China was in perfect sync with the rest of the world, with a mere lump when the now famous programme aired. It quickly faded away and the volume is back to it's post bubble decreasing slope. The whole China hype plays perfectly into western stereotypes about simple minded savages that need to be saved and educated, or in this case, dragged into a pump and dump shady investement. Most of the time the African, Asian or Southamerican savages know much better than the fat westerners what their problem is and usually the root of that problem is precisely some form of western intervention. |

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

This isn't an issue of race. You can make it one, but why? The point was that MORE people than ever before now know about Bitcoin. The buzz that came out of this was that the tone of the documentary was way more positive than anyone could have anticipated. |

This isn't an issue of race. You can make it one, but why? The point was that MORE people than ever before now know about Bitcoin. The buzz that came out of this was that the tone of the documentary was way more positive than anyone could have anticipated. Its not an issue of race at all imo. Its a fact that the internet has leveled the playing field of the stereotypical "less advanced" countries. They are privy to all the same information of the perceived "advanced" societies. |

It's not me who's making it a racial issue, it's all these people who think China is "behind" and needs to be brought up to speed with Bitcoin. I'm pretty sure all Chinese that were susceptible to investing in Bitcoin know English and have an internet connection, so a small documentary in Chinese will not change much.

The UK has not even become aware of Bitcoin, I think the world in general needs to catch up before we start looking into specific regions. Maybe some TV ads would wake people up, not that I have the capital lol.

50BTC pool has a concept of teams. Until recently "overclockers.ru" (865GHs as of today) were at the top in terms of hashing speed. Now this list is topped by a new "avalonchina" team (1190GHs as of today). Gives food for thought.
Oh, and that pool's speed has been increasing almost linearly from the 1st of April (from 5500GHs to 17000GHs)

There's been another big spike in searches, just look at that: http://stats.grok.se/zh/latest90/%E6%AF%94%E7%89%B9%E5%B8%812x the previous all-time high! Something has happened today (Monday 20th). Anyone know what? (Baidu and Google stats aren't available yet. Sourceforge downloads show an increase, but not as much as Wikipedia.) |
