If you got any skills you can trade services for them. Try posting an Ad on Craigslist or http://my.reddit.com/r/Jobs4bitcoins

I'd say unless you have an ASIC, mining isn't worth it.

There are a bunch of sites that give away a tiny amount of bitcoins for free. Here's a thread here with a list of them https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=90718.0 or just do a google search. Free sites are great if you want to experiment with bitcoins, but you'll basically be collecting dust.

You can get substantially more through other sites that let you earn bitcoins by visiting websites, doing tasks, etc. We run a site called BitcoinGet (http://www.bitcoinget.com) that is an example of one such site. We let you earn bitcoins by doing tasks, watching videos or completing offers. If you're willing to put some time in, the tasks can actually pay pretty well. Don't expect to replace your part-time/full-time job with using these sites, but if you have the time to burn, then this might be for you.

The best way to earn bitcoins imo is to create/provide some kind of Bitcoin-related service. Bitcoin is still new and there are holes to fill. If you don't have the ability to do this, then your best bet is probably to get an extra job and use the money earned to buy bitcoins from an exchange or service.

BitcoinGet is our favorite Free Bitcoin Offers site by a longshot. They have the highest payouts and plenty of offers to choose from. We really enjoy doing the website reviews and Google searches. A+

This. It's kind of annoying, that almost everyone who finds out about bitcoin has a hard time thinking of it as a real currency.

Like said before http://www.bitmit.net was my first way to earn some. I started selling there when bitcoin was worth over 200 dollars, so everything went away immediately XD. The escrow service is awesome!

There are a lot of options from simply buying them on an exchange etc or investing in the hardware to mine them, either way its really a case of spending money to make bitcoins  Cheesy

While I agree, I'd like to play devil's advocate a little: The type of response Gabi gave, while true, is generally rather unhelpful. If I search for nearby businesses with jobs on offer, would I be more likely to get a job paid in bitcoins or pounds? How, specifically, does one search for a job paid in bitcoins?

[I realize BitcoinBarrel has proposed one possible answer to this, but again browsing reddit to find a job is not what I first think of when I want to "Earn more dollars".]
