I think there's no way to compete each other, as it have its own platform. Eth is doing great in the market but it doesn't necessarily mean it can already surpass bitcoin. If were talking about the rate, eth should improve more to beat btc rate. Yeah its market cap is rising also its community support but it's not yet enough for more.
Bitcoin already establish its name in the market, knowing it is the top crypto currency. And then it will just remain there.

Ethereum is only getting used for one thing: Steal BTC from newbies throught endless ICOs... that's all.
