Is > 6 GPU Per Rig Possible With 1-to-3 Riser Card?

Curious if its possible to run more than 6 GPUs off 1 motherboard using a 1 to 3 PCIE riser card like this:

I've done some research myself and some people have success running 8 GPU's some say 7 is the limit.

Would it be possible to run 8 on?
H81 PRO BTC v1 with Celeron, Windows 10

Asus Z270-A can do 9 cards in Linux without splitter. Need 2x M.2 to PCIe.

It is but you could also be splitting into two motherboard units. Each set up has it's very own pros and cons. The bigger one is going to need higher cost individual parts but the two smaller ones might cost more in total for the same hashrate. If you feel like you have the knowledge to troubleshoot a 9 GPU setup though I don't see why not.
