Hello,

I'm building a small farm: I actually have 18 GPU and thinking on increasing it with 1060 3G.
I will be mining exclusively Eth until dec and then will probably switch currency because of the difficulty.
I know that the DAG file for Eth will be >4gb during 2018, will this be the same for other currencies like Zcash monero etc

I mean, is it smart to make savings by taking 3g cards as I would use them for 6 months on Eth and then on others or should I directly invest into 6gb cards?

Thanks

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Only ETH and it's offshoots like ETC have this issue.

For some coins using nscrypt, it also has increased memory issues.

Thanks guys, so for the long run it matters... I would be not that smart to save 40€/card to get 3gb versions.

1060 6gb is more ,,future proof" and also have much more resale value due to much better performance in recent PC games.

If you're only looking for short term use, then 4GB is just fine as you can sell them later for a decent price. Plus, you can mine other coins after the DAG exceeds 3GB like XMR or Zcash. I prefer to save but it's up to you.

The 1060 3GB and 1060 6GB apparently have different GPUS - it's not just the memory that seperates them.
IMO NVidia should have named the "1060 3GB" as the "1055" or some such.

It's POSSIBLE the GPU is actually the same but the 3GB card disables one compute unit (probably as a yield issue workaround), similar to the RX 470 vs RX 480 or the R9 290 vs the R9 290x.
