Very cool link. Love the comments for it. Especially seeing a TradeHill referral link, I swear some people may be into Bitcoin just to refer Tradehill lol.

I was wondering how their referral system works a little more in dept than what the site says. Couldn't you register two accounts for yourself, and use the child account to trade, making commission on the parent?

Are they just exploiting it or is there reason to think they were involved?

Sad truth is, at this point, we'll never know. People have that hive mind where we will see referral links everywhere. I await to find the right user to sign up off their referral link, as I will be signing up tonight, and lord knows I'll be putting the stupid referral link in my signature, what a whore I am.

"Holy Shit!" -MagicalTux Yeah my uname, email, and password is on there. Just finished changing every damn password I had. Funny thing is I had a Dwolla account with the same email to log in and the same password. Someone used this info to try to hack my gmail, i assumed that they cracked the password by bruteforcing the hash, but were unsuccessful bc different password. BUT they didn't try to log in to dwolla, which had the same pw. Lucky me, I guess.

Just a reminder people: Turn on two-stage authentication on your Gmail accounts. If those get breached, they can start getting your other accounts from there.

The unsalted user accounts in the wild are ones that haven't been accessed in over 2 months and are considered idle. from the mtgox post at mtgox.com. I call bullshit on this, my account was accessed every day, not 2 months ago. Disconcerting to see that mtgox is publishing false information to cover their ass.

Guys, let's give MtGox a break. At this time the investigation is still going on, and I am sure they have more than one hypothesis about what happened. As it is usually the case, only time will tell what is true and what is not. Meanwhile, there IS something useful we can do: stop speculating and start gathering objective data which can be used during the investigation. I am sure that many users have noticed something about their accounts that might be useful to find the truth. Please make notes and post them in an organized fashion. This is not the time for a MtGox witch hunt, but a productive collective effort!

Has anyone thought that it might just be competitors fighting? Mtgox was kind a the only place for exchanges for most people. I guess it will all change now.

I just wonder, is it a bad or good advertisment for newcomers... I suggest that it may involve a lot more speculators... You know, such a great fluctuations...

Looks like despite all the attention the hack got, trading prices seem to be fairly stable.

Geeks generally are able to ignore mass and public fears, we are just smarter. That is what I think at least, keeps the market from going away.
