Introduction
The Block Erupter USB series is the second major product of Bitfountain. Each one mines at more than 300MH/s, powered only by the USB port. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=195004.0 for more details.

I have PMed friedcat from ASICMINER and he has answered my questions to a satisfactory level for me to commit to organising this group buy.

Specifications
Hashrate: >300MH/s
Power Consumption: USB Power 500mA

Group Buy
This is a group buy. The group will need to pledge to buy 300 units before we can place an order with friedcat (rep. from ASICMINER). No coins are required until we have the numbers to fill an order. A date will be decided as to when all pledgers have to deposit their coins by. This will only happen if we get enough people interested in this group buy.

Once enough coins have been collected and the time to pay has expired, an order will be placed from the Escrow wallet to ASICMINER. Your position in the group to get your units delivered is based on the time the Escrow wallet receives your coins. There is no refund process once you have deposited your coins, unless the group’s order with ASICMINER falls through (e.g. sold out, not enough funds raised etc.).

Only pledge to buy units if you have the coins to pay when the time comes.

Cost Updated 2013-05-15
Cost Price: 1.99BTC each for 4 units and above or, 2.16BTC each for orders 3 units and below.
Fees (Postage & handling, etc.): 0.54BTC per order
Minimum 4 units (for the 1st order), to maximum 10 units per order.

The min. cost to join this group buy is 8.5BTC 2.70BTC.
You may order any number of units above the min. order.
Example cost of an order for 11 units: 11 * 1.99 + 2 * 0.54 = 22.97BTC
I do not expect any additional fees to be incurred unless delivering outside the Express Post network.
Only Bitcoins are accepted.

Escrow
I have contacted Graet, who has graciously agreed to escrow this group buy. The agreed Escrow fee is 2% of collected fees. This is already included in the fees and is not an additional cost to you.
An Escrow list can be found here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=108716.0 should you not know Graet.

Delivery
Delivery Date: In more than 3 weeks time. Exact date to be confirmed.
Units will be packed into a box and ship through Australia Post - Express Post http://auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/express-post.html
Anyone outside of the Express Post network (e.g. New Zealand and Asian countries) should PM me for a quote before pledging.
I will need 48 working hours to process all orders when I receive the package from ASICMINER. It should take Australia Post 1 working day to deliver the Express post package. A little longer if you are not on the Express Post network.
Sorry, no pick-ups.

How to Pledge
Reply to this thread with the following:
[Username];[Number of Units];[Total Bitcoins]
Please feel free to show your interest even if you cannot pledge at the time.

Communications
I will endeavor to check my PM and this thread daily.
My timezone is UTC/GMT +10 hours, Australian Eastern Standard Time
I have a full-time job between 6am and 6pm Monday to Friday.
I can also be found on IRC in freenode #bitcoin-aus.

Warranty
ASICMINER is offering six months warranty which I will honour. This warranty starts from the time they ship till the time they receive the faulty units. However warranty replacements are only processed at a batch of 10 at one time. Return postage to me is at the owner's expense.

Plan B
In the event we do not reach the required pledges, I will attempt to purchase from another group buy. Hopefully with a large enough group we will have better buying power. Prices will be revised should this happen.

Conditions
I cannot be held responsible for situations that is out of my control. For example, if ASICMER decides to change the spec of their product, or if Customs and Border Protection suddenly decide to impound the shipment for whatever reason or if the price of Bitcoins fall or rise etc.
I reserve the right to alter the conditions of this group buy until the first payment is made into the Escrow wallet.

Thank you for your interest and participation,
QG

Takes 4 months to break even.

I mean in for a penny in for a pound - better off getting a 10-20 a chip board from a dev.

Sure 1.99BTC seems a bit steep for 300MH/s with what's coming in the horizon. But if you believe ASICMINER can delivery in 3 weeks as they have announced, these USB miners will be mining in under 1 month with USB power (2.5W). There's been no news on Avalon Batch 2, BFL today announced delays.

I have pre-ordered 200 Avalon chips from zefir. They cost me ~$10AUD or 0.086BTC each. This is before Shipping, Stamp Duty (5%) and GST (10%).
A 20 chip module from Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service cost 100Eur, or ~1BTC.
0.086 * 20 + 1 = 2.72BTC This gets you 5.6GH/s @ 40W, again, this is before Shipping, Duty and GST.
This can be delivered at best in August, but lets be realistic here. These board have yet to be tested or even prototyped. There are only 4 Avalon chip board manufacturers listed on this forum. Even if they can get them working immediately, how fast can they get built boards to everyone?

There is certainly an end of life period for these USB miners. Whether you can get your ROI within this critical period depends on your particular situation. I am sure all potential pledges have actually done their maths and know the risks factors. Not all parties are interested in mining profits.

Can I be trusted?
Would you trust a user just because they had 500 posts? No, I wouldn't either. Hence I have taken the liberty of organising escrow with Graet. There are no additional charge for this, it's all included with the 0.54BTC fee.

Thank you for your interest,
QG

this is awsome Smiley, i think the price is fair, for such a small miner, ye it is 2btc for 300mhashes, but its usb powered, my 5870 gets 400 ish mhashes and eats my electricity bill aswell xD,,, these will definately be worthwhile for me \Cheesy/

Hi QG

Thanks for trying to put this deal together.

The math I would propose is:

1.99 * 1.15 = 2.2885, lets call it 2.3BTC for the Device plus GST&Duty.
so a minimum of 4 would be
2.3 x 4 = 9.2BTC
9.2 + 0.5 S&H = 9.7BTC

Sure it looks dear, compared to the potential future. But it's an advance on GPU mining.

Nearly bought my last GPU last Saturday. With the announcement of these unitary USBs hitting the boards since, I'm sure glad I didn't buy. It's the logical next move for me, the first *small* incremental *now* move from GPUs into customs miners.

Gnoll110

Update: As per IRC, please put me down for 6.

Thanks for the support all!!

We now have a total of 8 of the min. 300.

Code:
Username	Units	BTC
daemondazz 4 8.5
Stack 4 8.5

I'll at lease be doubling that once I figure out how many I want. Anyone found any suitable USB hubs to power these miners? Going to have a look today.

Feel free to share recommendations.

Now this is interesting, With both good and bad points, The only bad point is the price per unit, But think about the positives, Being USB it will use <= 5W per unit, At around $230 is priced around a 58XX without all the hassle of building a rig and much less power, Its small, Light, Easy to set up a lot at once.

I'm almost sold, But From an ROI point, It's not worth it for me, But this is excellent for people who want to mine without the need for bulky GPU's and setup/clocking/cooling problems.

Good luck on your pitch, This is a step forward for mining.

Might be worth opening this up to New Zealand as well, possibly some people over there interested but unable to get the numbers for a group buy themselves. Probably wouldn't cost much extra to ship some over that way.
