It's just the stuff that you came across because I used btc to buy some gift cards and rdp accounts which were totally legal and 100% usable.

yeah, these days there are plenty of ways to spend BTC or to convert them.
for example, Coingig. Just google it)
and even Virgin Galactics accepts btc, apparently.

Gift Cards are a very nice method to use when trying to get rid of Bitcoins. It’s best not to really sell the coins off to someone for Gift Cards online because they usually scam the people by sending them an already used Gift Card that can’t be used.
Another scenario would  be if the people that spend their Bitcoin on a Gift Card purchase a item that they wanted then figure out that they could’ve purchase more Gift Cards for the same price that they bought it for in a couple of days when the price doubled up. Make sure you want it first if you decide to get a Gift Card for Bitcoins.

to abandon it is beyond me.

I do have some bitcoin, but not much.  And I do spend it, though I'd prefer not to get
into where.  Nothing illegal, but not anyone's business.  You can certainly find places to
spend it, but it's much easier to spend fiat, and I prefer to do that.  But I have found
some merchants online that I do repeated business with.  If you support bitcoin being
used as a currency, then that helps when you actually buy things with it.  I do prefer
to save it, however.

I bought a bitcoin and using it in trading @ poloniex. so far so good, I'm earning profit even the market not stable because of segwit.
