Has anybody used ExchangeBitcoins.com ? Please share your experience, the good and the bad? I'm looking for good alternatives to Mt Gox.

You can't win if you don't play. But you can't play if you lose all your chips. First I found bitcoin (BTC). Then I found something better, Monero (XMR). See GetMonero.org

I have not used it:(

Although tradehill is I think the second most used exchange and it is pretty truth worthy.

If you do sign up, can you use my referral?  Thanks!

I started trading there yesterday, as I was looking for a platform with a running API to test my bot.
As far as I know, this is for now the only place with an API up and running right now.

The site is quite minimal, but it  does the job, and at least they get your open orders sorted.
However, just like tradehill, it does not consolidate your orders of the same price, which is a nice feature of MtGox for bots.
Be careful with the dropdownlist for order types, seems a bit dodgy to me.
Also like TradeHill, it reserves the value of your open orders, which is fine to me because my bot already does that; Accordingly, the "available" amounts give me a good reading of what the bot gets to play with (I don't auto-cancel for now)

After some minor modifications to clean up their Json (to fix a bug and to convert to the MtGox format), I was able to use the same component I had just started to test on MtGox on last Week-End.
Runs smoothly at the moment, plus the commission is quite low, so I'm definitely up for testing some more, though I haven't experienced withdrawals yet.

Cheers,

This site says they take personal checks.

How can they possibly do that with all the check fraud out there? What happens if somebody deposits a stolen check, then runs off with a bunch of bitcoins?

That's a risk they're willing to take.

I just wanted to post to let everyone know that I've been using them for almost 2 months. ExchangeBitcoins.com is great. Of the exchange sites that I've used ExchB.com is the fastest, most reliable, best designed site.

was just looking for peoples experiences and ran across this thread.  Yeah they verify that someone has access to the account first.

So basically you are worried, that someone who KNOWS you have an account on this exchange, and managed to get your username and password and is able to steal your checks, and then uses your checks, to deposit into YOU account on this exchange, and then buys btc and runs off with them., sounds like you might have more problems than the exchange.

I suppose it is a worry but compared to a lot of other things, like simply getting access to your computer and stealing your bitcoins is probably a bigger threat
