Here you can find some suggestions about web wallets if you mean that: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet , some wallets do not allow you to have full control over your money so you may only be able to sign a message but nothing else to spend using the private key, if their website goes down then you can't access your funds.

It depends on what do you want to do with the online wallet, use it only for small amounts for bigger use desktop wallets or hardware wallets. For example: Blockchain.info its an easy wallet lots of people use it but isn't very safe. If you choose coinbase, don't play on bitcoin casinos, gambling isn't allowed.

I don't like online wallets. They're not safe because they're holding your private keys. This means they have the key to do whatever you want like stealing your coins too.

Most newbies like to use blockchain.info myself. I have used it in the past, when I started, to learn how to send and recieve BTC. After learning more about it, I realized that it's stupid to have any relevant amount of money in online wallets, so I run my own full node. You should put more effort into your security the more money you are holding in bitcoin. Remember to back up your private keys. There are endless videos nowadays on youtube, when I started it was just text.

This is main problem of majority online wallets. They don't give full control of our bitcoins. If website will be hacked, it's a big risk that bitcoins can be stolen. Also, it's possible that web wallet creators will run away with all bitcoins.
There aren't many diferences between exchanges and majority of online wallets. Personally, I don't suggest to use web wallet as a main wallet to keep all bitcoins. If you want to use it as a secondary wallet, you may try blockchain.info. Xapo and Coinbase are also popular, but it's centralized wallets.

Not all of online wallet holding your private key, there are some that giving your private key like blockchain (though i don't recommend this online wallet ) coinspace also giving you full control over your bitcoins. still agree with you that online wallet is not good for storing your bitcoin, it's ok for storing spendable amount.

To op : you might check the link that n691309 mentioned above, i'm advising you to avoid coinbase, xapo and maybe blockchain.

Its really hard to find a good and safe bitcoin web wallet for me i still choose electrum instead if i want a safety place of my bitcoin.
But if you are just only looking for online wallet you can try to choose coinbase but like other said not good to use if you are gamble..
You can also try to use localbitcoin i heard that they giving a new bitcoin transaction fee  system which is fair for their customer..
But if you are looking for high security much better to use electrum or hardware wallet like trezor or ledger nano..

That's right, you can't access your private keys this new update of blockchain wallet which is HD wallets.
If I were you OP, use a desktop wallet if you have a PC this wallet is much safer than in any kind of wallet, and of course you must secured first your device. And Electrum is the that I'm talking about.
And a Mycelium wallet if you have smartphone, this wallet is the most recommended mobile wallet eversince, so you must use it too Wink

I will not recommend any specific online wallet but I am spilling the beans for you to choose the right one. Wallets which provide you the private keys are the genuine wallets.

There are some who call themselves wallets but actually are exchanges and do not provide you the private keys. With a private key you can recover your coins, but without it you are at the mercy of the so called wallets. Choose wisely.

Xapo/Coinbase. Currently only these wallets are working fine and they can keep your bitcoins safe but if you are sending bitcoins from untrusted sources like gambling websites, these two wallets will block your funds. Due to 2FA they are a bit safe but in general you don't hold the private keys of your addresses plus they charge 0.0015-0.003 fee per transaction. IF you want a better option, choose counterparty wallet which lets you choose a smaller fee.

Note: None of these wallets are safe and there is a risk of losing your coins if your device has any vulnerability.

You can use Online wallet but do it with your own risk because anytime you can lose your money because lose your credentials or hacked. It would be better to generate your address through Vanitygen and then import your private key to the online wallet which support import address like Blockchain.info and that's more secure than using default address generated by your wallet.

Blockchain.info is one of the oldest and trusted wallets when it comes to online wallets and I would recommend it for holding small amounts of bitcoin but we now have more wallet options to choose from today that  are trying to offer better services like easy conversion to other coins at the click of a button

Sometimes the first results of Google aren't always the safest. You need to watch out for scams. What the OP is doing is what everyone should do. Go to a site like Reddit, Bitcointalk or forum.bitcoin.com and ask for trusted programs.

Id recommend BitGo, as they are the most secure partially web wallet. Otherwise, I would say Blockchain.info.

From initial starting I'll suggest you to use Coinbase, blockchain or other online wallet. As the normal online wallet doesn't offer additional security option, there always chance to hack, but start making little payments it can considerable.
