I don't like it, but so many people use it and trust it.

There is another one too, KeepPass I think.  One is better for online the other is better for offline.  Or so I read.

I have been using it for months now and have never had anyone steal my passwords. There are a few different ones out there but I like lastpass.

keepass is quite good, and it also has a LOT of different os's that it has ports for, so its nice if you have an iphone or an android device etc.

my gf just had had 600$ stolen from her paypal account (getting the funds back of course), so have been in the process of changing all of my and getting her to change all of her passwords just to be safe, apparently facebook, twitter, paypal, and a few other sites have had their userbase exploited

All right, I think I'm kind of convinced to invest in one of these, unless I can use both simultaneously.  I think I am going LastPass, even though they were hit recently, which was always my fear in the first place.

1password is also great.  Not free but great for mac users.

+1.  1Password rocks, and works under Windows, Macintosh, iPhone, and Android.  You can synchronize your encrypted database using Dropbox and have all of your passwords with you everywhere.

Highly, highly recommended.

I agree they're good, I just cannot bring myself to trust an online provider with all of my security credentials and other personal information.  No matter what they say.

Dropbox told us all that no one could access our files because they were encrypted.

Then they came out and admitted they have keys and they have employees who CAN access them all.

What if that happened with LastPass?

Unfortunately I have to agree with you on that, as lastpass is closed source.  I'll have to try keepass..

Ummm yeah...lastpass doesnt store your passwords on their site, they are stored locally on your computer. Yes lastpass was broken into however the only info they got was user names and passwords for the site. They did not get any other info as I said your passwords are not stored on the actual site, but locally in your computer.

They store passwords encrypted by your master passphrase on their servers. Thats why you can install lastpass on any computer, and, after entering your email and passphrase, get access to all your stored passwords. If it all works as they say - your local lastpass connects to lastpass servers, downloads your data in encrypted form, and decrypts it locally.
