Alibaba should be the next global giant to accept Bitcoin according to 4,500 participants in a survey this week.

52 percent of respondents to the survey by Digital Currency Group creator Barry Silbert believe the Chinese marketplace is next in line to embrace the virtual currency.

Other options included Amazon (31 percent) and Google (12 percent), while only five percent of those answering on Twitter believed Facebook would be the first of the group to get serious about Bitcoin. According to Barry Silbert

https://twitter.com/intent/follow?screen_name=barrysilbert

This proves nothing about whether alibaba would actually want to start accepting bitcoin.

It is merely an opinion poll of what bitcoiners think will be next to accept bitcoin. Now bitcoiners cannot change the minds of the CEOs of companies, it is ultimately up to them therefore this poll is redundant.

I wouldn't be surprised though if Alibaba started to accept bitcoin - most likely on their sister site aliexpress because that's aimed as a global audience instead of just chinese though. Asian countries are already trying to regulate and legalize the bitcoin market whilst the US is doing nothing to try to embrace the technology. Most customers of US bitcoin companies are overseas as well...

It is not a confirmed news but I am sure we will soon have options to pay in bitcoin for the purchases made on the e-commerce websites with the business models like bitpay. I see the price volatility and the increase in transaction fees are the main reasons for the sceptical stance of these giant companies towards bitcoin. It might boost the growth of these companies too as it will promote cross-border transactions too.

It is like the online shops now are urging to accept bitcoin to their company and have a bitcoin payment method that can make more sales to their items and for me, this is the sign for bitcoin that most of the big companies are taking serious moves in bitcoin and they want more and more opportunity because of accepting bitcoin.

OP the title of the thread is not relevant to the comment, still their is no confirmation from any of the online company confirmation of using bitcoin, this is just a poll conducted by a users for getting bitcoin as payment on this sites. So it is just a poll and not a decision.

no chinese company will ever, ever, ever accept bitcoin.

if you look into your history you'll see the reason for the bitcoin 'china ban' was  because companies in china were starting to use it as a currency. the chinese government put a stop to that immediately.

people gambling on exchanges only just have been allowed to start again.

If alibaba were really to accept bitcoin before amazon and the others it would be good but the link you posted there OP is just a speculation to what will be the next big giant company to accept bitcoin as payment, not literally speaking that alibaba will accept bitcoin so I think your title is misleading. There is a big possibility though that alibaba won't start to accept bitcoin yet.

I thought that alibaba really accepting bitcoin and if that case happened it will be a very great news, a big company need to follow the latest technology and development if the they want to keep on top, but China has a bit problem with bitcoin so it will be difficult for the government to adapt bitcoin, hopefully after the poll the owner will considered about this thing

For a moment I was like I should make my purchase from Alibaba, but no lol, I think whoever does accept it, will be a master stroke cause it will open a whole new audience to them, and it shall take them places. I am yet waiting for one of them to make a change and accept it, it's kind of strange that they have yet not implemented it.

This is just speculation from a public poll. Do not write as if Alibaba had confirmed to accept the use of Bitcoins in its services. As far as we know, none of the companies mentioned in the poll are guaranteed to accept Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies as a form of payment in their products.

According to Barry Silbert
Barry didn't said anything. He just asked for people's opinion on his twitter on which company will embrace Bitcoin first.

Clickbait, I really thought Alibaba has confirmed and are ready to accept Bitcoin as a form of payment just like Amazon but not as a direct payment though, correct me if I'm wrong but you can use your wallet to buy an Amazon digital gift card to purchase items.

It's too great, If Alibaba start accept bitcoin like a payment method, And i think, they can make a amazing profit if they start accepting bitcoin,

because as we know bitcoin price increase a lot over the years. So they can make a huge profit after few years.

Anyways, It's easy for us to buy goods from marketplaces sites using our bitcoin, so It's amazing thing.

Talk about the fact that Alibaba and aliexpress will accept payment in bitcoins I heard a few years ago, but still it's just a rumor. Before expanding the range of sales with bitcoin you need to have been accumulated a lot of coins. What is the point to trade for bitcoin if the buyers need to change Fiat to bitcoins.

Very disappointed reading this thread. I excitedly clicked on it thinking it was confirmed news. Imagine if this happens, it would transform bitcoin to a "real" currency and the surge in price would break all records. One can dream for now.

Alibaba is one of the famous ecommerce site, manufacturers are even on Alibaba to sell their own products.  I personally know so a dermatologist who sells their beauty products in alibaba so having BTC to be accepted will be a big factor for the adoption of cryptocurrencies not just btc. Soon its not just them that will accept BTC but maybe the manufacturers themselves will accept BTC.

I am not that happy about the Click-bait title as well.

Even if Alibaba accepted Bitcoin the price of Bitcoin will go up some then the price of the coin we be volatile due to the amount of people trying to sell their coins that they've made to purchase more products.

Yes, it is will be a great initiative by a huge company which will make way for other companies to adapt bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. It'll definitely increase the price and more people will be buying cryptocurrencies for usage.

What. How does a poll make you conclude that Alibaba will indeed be the first one on the list to accept bitcoin? and you used the title "ALIBABA TO ACCEPT BITCOIN" like as if Alibaba already made an announcement. This is just a poll Barry Silbert, yes he is kind of somewhat an authority on crypto but still, not because alibaba has the highest votes it doesn't mean they will indeed be the first one to accept bitcoins. I was actually excited at first. Classic clickbait.  Angry

They are all idiots, if I was a merchant that size I'd be using a payment processor and convert Bitcoin into fiat on the spot to make sure I never lose any money due to volatility, but personally I'd be keeping the coins for future profit. they haven't realized the potential of accepting Bitcoin, there will be no more payment reversal no dispute and no trouble, once they receive the coins it'll be up to them to send it back if the buyer didn't want the product, instead they are playing with their balls, waiting for others to engage first to see how it would go.

Exactly, they need to be up and doing because Bitcoin shows semblance of a better currency than the existing fiats if they employ that into their payment system. It's just sad some of these multinational companies are just not thinking innovation but they are to be conservative and keep the old routing practices.
