Bitcoin accepted here: The tiny family restaurant in India that’s embraced virtual currency

For most Indians new to the concept of cryptocurrencies, the idea of making a transaction in real life using bitcoin seems vaguely illicit. It certainly doesn’t seem like the kind of thing you’d do on a Saturday afternoon, for instance, after devouring a Maharashtrian thali or snacking on a vada pav.

And yet, at the Suryawanshi restaurants in Bengaluru’s Indiranagar and Whitefield neighbourhoods, that’s exactly what you can do, because owner Kailash Suryawanshi accepts bitcoin as a mode of payment, alongside the usual cash, cards, and Paytm.

Suryawanshi, originally from the town of Kolhapur in Maharashtra, moved to the southern city way back in 2004 and worked in the used cars business. Nearly a decade later, after noticing the glaring lack of quality Maharashtrian food available, he launched his first eponymous restaurant in Whitefield, and followed that up with another in Indiranagar in 2015, gradually making a name for himself by serving authentic Kolhapuri thalis, loaded with seafood and meats.

Well I guess they wanted to be the first restaurant to truly accept bitcoin in India. Although they may have problems because of the high transaction fee, but I think once bitcoin boom in India, their business might also boom as well. Th restaurant has already made its name in the industry and accepting bitcoin will put them a notch higher against their competition.

It is very smart step to accept BTC as payment because it is increasing and very good investment. I believe more restaurants will follow this path by accepting BTC.

It was posted at June and I really do want to have updates on what has been the profits or the customers reaction on this concepts. I have an information about the improvement of number of Indian who invest and has big impact in the rally of increase this week as they doubled they’re join in investors. We all know how fast they’re adaptation to technology is and bitcoin/cryptocurrency works really good for them.

Same here, its been months now and I'm sure all of us is curious as to what happened to the restaurant. Are they still operational and accepting bitcoin as payment? Specially India has lifted its demonetization program, I'm sure it has impact to the flow of money. There's also another thread here asking for any restaurant that accepts bitcoin. I'm sure we can point them out to one of restaurant in India that accepts bitcoin as payment. Though we need to at least get the latest news as how the restaurant is doing now.

"Bitcoin accepted here" is the best commercial for crypto currency which ever would be created. I support their idea, maybe they are first restaurant in India, but not in the world which is accepting bitcoins.
But the same like you are, I suppose they may have problem with the government, cause of, as I know, there is no a concrete law in India about crypto currencies regulation. I remember this story about gold's confiscation which had place to be the last year and from that I got that Indian government is corrupted and just crazy, so I don't know what to expect from them in the case of tiny restaurant accepting bitcoin.
