Hi,

So Im fairly new to this and I recently started using Bitcoin for making payments and stuff and I made my first wallet on blockchain.info. After making an account I got a 12 phrase word that I saved on a piece of paper and did the same for my password. So I logged in deposit some bitcoins into it and when I came back from work I couldn´t login into it anymore. I am pretty sure that I got the right password because I wrote it down word per word on a piece of paper and also made copies of it. I did the same for my 12 phrase word incase I would ever be locked out of my account. I even took a screenshot of it just to never be mistaken. And now I can´t login into my account because I for some reason have the wrong password and when trying to recover the password using the 12 phrases its also wrong.

I send a ticket they their support and they keep telling me that I entered the wrong password and the wrong 12 phrase word but I am 100% sure this is the right one. Is there any one who can help me please.

Kind regards,

Wow! That is quite strange! Cause those two are exactly what you need to have access to your account most especially the 12 phrase in case you lose your password. First question I will ask is, did you by any mistake drop those details you wrote on paper carelessly? That is what I would think first anyway. If you did and your details are correct, then it may be a browser error, just try again later or on another browser. I have never heard of such issue before with blockchain.info anyway.

Also, no matter how desperate you are to get that wallet back, don't ever give those details to anyone.

Lastly, if you are able to resolve this, I will also advise you use a desktop wallet if you have a SECURED PC that helps you have access to your private key. As far as I know, they are more secured than Web wallet where there is a complete third party in charge of your coins. I will recommend Exodus wallet, though new but great and newbie friendly. Note that some details you need to always keep carefully to keep your assets safe in case you have them directly at your disposal are (Main password, recovery phrase and your private keys).

Kind regards,

Are you sure you have written down the passphrase correctly, 12 words? Because if it is wrong then you would not be able to recover your account. There is a space between each word and most of the words does have a meaning apart from names.

This link might be helpful, https://blockchain.info/wallet/forgot-password

This is the older version of Blockchain wallet for recovering password.

Im pretty sure they are correct because the first time I used it I got logged in without any problems. But the problem I find so unlucky is that my 12 phrase password is incorrect because I even took a screenshot from the moment I was given this phrase. But I will try the other wallets, thank god I only put around 20 euro to start out. Thanks for the answer.

Wow the story is horrible! Unfortunately I don't know how I can help you, I am a simple user just like you. I Also had Blockchain wallet before and I hadn't any problem with that. I just saved the password in browser, so I logged in automatically in my wallet.

Kind regards,

They keeping telling you that because that is only the respond even by the others.

I just test my 12 mnemonic passphrase and everything went smoothly. I believe that you did a lots of copy of your passphase so the turning point will be, if you really copied the exact word. It's impossible that it will not work and I think this is the first case I hear about it. Anyways mind telling us the amount involved?

You can double check your 12 word seed... create an "offline" copy of this website: https://iancoleman.github.io/bip39/

The instructions for creating the offline copy are at the bottom of the page. After you have done that, open the offline copy in your browser. Then do the following:

1. Put your 12 word seed in at the top as the "BIP39 Mnemonic"
2. Under "Derivation Path" click "BIP32"
3. Set the "Client" dropdown value to "blockchain.info"

You should be able to see the addresses for your account at the bottom. If these addresses do not match with the one that you deposited bitcoins to, chances are that you got the mnemonic wrong. How that happened if you took a screenshot is beyond me. I could only guess that there was a bug in blockchain.info and the mnemonic they displayed was not the one that got set up on your wallet ID.

If the address does match, at least you'll be able to use the matching private key to sweep or import that address to another wallet and recover your coins.

It says invalid mnemonic. Looks like something went wrong on my part, I apologize. I just put 20  euro worth of bitcoin into the wallet to see how the well the wallet works and stuff. I don´t know how this is wrong but it must be my fault so again I apologize. Im just confused how I fucked up even with the screenshot.

most probably you are typing one or more of the words wrong (like spelling error).

according to the link at the bottom of this page (https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039.mediawiki) blockchain.info is using this word list (https://github.com/bitcoinjs/bip39/blob/master/wordlists/english.json).
check your seed against these words and see which one you are typing wrong.

Indeed a strange situation. So far I never had any problems with blockchain and with backup wallet with my key phrase. Make sure you type it again accordingly to the same exact place. Next time try to backup your wallets privatekey instead to make it more easier to access the wallet even in a different wallet. I'd suggest you to stay away of web wallets like blockchain also.

I don't think this is anything related to bug in blockchain wallet, I am using them and never encountered any problem when recovering my wallet from my backup phrase and password. Try to remember your password and also your backup phrase and try again.

The first thing I would do is check all the spellings of your twelve word passphrase....sometimes our minds see things differently than they are, especially when we've been misspelling a word our whole lives.  The second thing I would do is double check the login link in your email, e.g. blockchain.info/wallet/1111-222-333... The series of numbers and dashes at the end of the link is your Wallet ID....

I bet there's just a misspelled word somewhere.....

Ok, so if the webpage says invalid mnemonic, you have indeed copied something wrong... it is likely to be that you've just transcribed one of the words incorrectly. As I remember, when blockchain.info gives you your 12 word seed, it does it 4 words at a time... and uses numbers... ie.
Quote
1.abuse 2.pioneer 3.security 4.effort

Make sure you are NOT including the numbers when you type the mnemonic in... it should ONLY be the words:
Quote
abuse pioneer security effort

Also, double check the spelling of the words... there are a few that a quite similar... I helped a fellow user a few weeks ago, one word in their mnemonic was written down wrong... you can get words like this:
Quote
kid, kind, kit, kite

So a missing letter or an accidentally added letter or changing of 1 letter can mess everything up!

So, if it isn't the numbers and you are typing 12 words, I would suggest that you look at the list of words here: https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039/english.txt

See if there are any words that are very similar to the ones you have written down (like kid/kit/kite) and maybe try different combinations
