So im currently mining on 5 r9 380x's, 6 rx 570's and 1 rx 480. Im getting about 275-285mh/s on ethermine.org pool. im sucking about a total of 2850 watts at 9 cents per kwh (cheap i know).

Im making what like 42$ a day on average which im happy with BUT ZEC is worth about the same as ETH so i was thinking of diversifying my systems and mine 2 different coins just in case, i have 3 rigs, maybe make my 2 gpu rig (one 570 and one 480) mine zec and see how it goes.

Only thing is its 1000000x more confusing than ETH tutorials. Setting it up is around the same way but im wondering why calculators say i will loose money (like 1.50$ per day) with a 2 gpu rig sucking about 300-350w max when with ETH ill make money either way.

Mostly i dont get what is the difference between sol/s and mh/s. whats the conversion rate of the two?

Then what kind of hashrate would i expect from a 2 gpu rig...would it be in single h/s or kh/s or mh/s because on the calculator if i put in sol/s or h/s i will loose money so i need to make at least 1000h/s to actually make money. but then factoring in power consumption...etc...

any help would be greatly appreciated!

edit: im seeing people report anywhere between 350 and 25 sol/s on 480's...wtf is this and all posts are between 2015 and now.

sol = hash
H/s = hash per second
MH = Million hashes per second

Ether mining produces hash rates thousands of times faster than Zcash, so you use MH.

a solution is not the same as a hash.

They are fundamentally different measurement.

ZCash reads out in sol/s because the Devs believe it is a better measure than hashes.

That last sentence makes little sense and is misleading.

OP, it sounds like you were equating the hashrate your cards get ethereum mining to zcash mining. You should just test mining some zcash to see how fast your rig is.

At the moment, your AMD cards are almost certainly 15%+ more profitable mining eth than zcash, but that can change very quickly.

I knew someone was going to say that...

1) I know they are not the same BUT the pools, miner software, and calcs all interchange sol to hash at 1:1, so that is how we use it now.

2) Not really.  if you have 28 mh on ETH and 300 h/s on Zcash then ETH is hashing 93'000 times faster.  It is a different algo, so the speed difference is meaningless.

So how many sol/s would you get from a 480? 300?

https://www.nicehash.com/?p=calc

480 shows 305 Sol/S

at least this calculator is close for stock settings.. with a little OC my 1070s are around 489ish SOLs.

Homework assignment:

a) Compare the power consumed by your setup mining 100% ETH with mining 100% ZEC.

b) Take the numbers from a) to derive $/day

My 8*1060 GPU consume 1.5 times more power in Zcash mining.

What sort of figures are you getting with 1060's on ZEC?

I'd switch the R9 380x over to ZEC - they should be more profitable there as they're not real good ETH miners.

For ZEC and it's offshoots, sol/s IS for all practical purposed the same as hash/s - completed "units of work / sec".

For most AMD RX series cards, ETH is generally the same to a little more profitable than ZEC.
 Older AMD cards vary.
For NVidia cards, the 1070 and 1060 are the only ones even worth considering mining ETH with but are almost always more profitable on ZEC or some of the small-cap "skein" "groetsl" "lbry" and such coins.

For mining, 9 cents/kwh is NOT cheap. There are way too many major farms that pay 3c/kwh or less and even some of us SMALL miners in the right areas can get to 3 or a hair under.

For the ZEC mining, the 1080Ti is better than the 1070 as it is relative cheaper in terms Hash /dollar.

Can someone just clearly explain to me how ZEC is supposedly more profitable than ETH with a 1070 as I can't see it myself.

Currently they are about the same for a 1070. ETH is more profitable if you dual mine.

Hi,

I have just tried running ZCash on my rig and its running on average at approx. 2860 sol/s, that's with 6x GTX 1070 GPU, with ETH I get 180MH/s

I have to say running ZEC, the GPU temperature really jumps up a bit, It only runs at 47c on ETH, its going to 62c on ZEC

Are you saying I should mine ETH and ZEC together then??

Also what's the best wallet for for ZEC? Ive set one up with Jaxx

For the ZEC mining, the 1080Ti is better than the 1070 as it is relative cheaper in terms Hash /dollar.

Only because the 1070 has gotten into "shortage gouge pricing" situation, and the very recent small price rise on the 1080.

Prior to that, it was pretty much a tossup between the 1070, 1080, and 1080 ti on hash/$ - a hair over 1 sol/s per $ on any of them.

Relative profitability between ZEC and ETH varies a bit - it's usually close, but commonly ZEC is slightly better over the last couple months.
