This is a variant of the long time listener, first time caller analogy in radio. I have been reading these forums for a long time, but decided it was time to get to doing something besides just reading.
I have been mining for a while. Nothing too hardcore, just a GPU or two, and so far, no asics in my future.

I want to start by thanking all the people and their work that made mining possible for me.
Thanks!

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Which cryptocurrency are you mining at the moment? Since you mentioned ASIC, I would assume that it's bitcoin but AFAIK, mining bitcoin via GPUs are no longer recommended since the return is simply not worth it. Just looking for some opinions if you're willing to share. Smiley

Welcome to the #1 Bitcoin community Smiley

As mentioned above if you are mining bitcoins with a GPU it may not be worth it in comparison to other currencies. I know mining LTC is more profitable if you are a beginner at the moment.

Lots of people are jumping onto FTC these days. I would have done the same but somehow my cgminer refused to connect to the FTC pool & I'm' too lazy to re-install the OS hence LTC is here to stay, at least for me.

I'm a GPU miner too.  It's hard to "pull out" from BTC/NMC and move to LTC sometimes. So I kinda rotate between the 2 pools during day/night. Tongue

Agree with OP - want to say thanks to this community. It is really very interesting to work with cryptocurrencies, even without purpose to get huge money  Grin
