Hi, just joined.  I'm new to the idea of BitCoin and would love to participate in some way in this new way of banking.

Are there any recommended bitcoin tutorials or youtube videos?

There is alot of information out there yes .
pick a mining pool . and the info u need will be there .

i myself am using slush pool https://mining.bitcoin.cz/
ull be up and mining in few simple steps.
For totally new users i recommand Guiminer software and move on to cgMiner when you understand how it works.

you can also visit many sites to get free micro ammounts of BTC.
http://bitvisitor.com/?ref=19rgaCrhBTYbS18azWJQypfUykwV6rSbNt
http://www.bitcrate.net/index.php?ref=1811 referal
http://earnfreebitcoins.com?ref=19rgaCrhBTYbS18azWJQypfUykwV6rSbNt
http://bitcoinaddict.com/ 24h jackpot
http://www.cointube.tv/

and once you have gathered some BTC you can go to localbitcoins.com and wait for market changes to buy and sell

Hope it Helps

Hello and welcome!

The best way to acquire bitcoins is to either buy them from an exchange or provide a good/service in exchange for BTC (see my signature below for some examples of participating in the BTC economy).

Mining will only be profitable long term for serious upfront expenditure of capital.  If you really, really just want to mine then go for it, but do so knowing that it is probably the least efficient way of getting your hands on real coin.

I highly recommend Jupiter Broadcasting's Plan B (link).
It's not a "you're new to bitcoin! here's how to do it!" show, but you learn a bunch from hearing about it.

Welcome!

I'm new on here too, but have been working with BTC for a few years now.  If you have any questions that might be a bit more in depth, feel free to ask me and I'll do my best to answer them!
