It's been there for as long as it's been everywhere else. The only difference is the far less silly tax treatment. Hopefully it'll hot things up as BTC seems to be quite the non event in Australia compared to elsewhere.

I think it has some room to fall before any big booms. Bitcoin has risen really far really fast, and it's going to face resistance. It's currently overvalued and needs to correct and calm down for a bit before it can continue growing.

While your assessment is right you are underestimating the psychology of the masses, when we finally get bitcoin accepted in Australia, and if I’m right then that is going to happen in July 1st, you must understand this will create optimism in the people, so I think we are going to see a pump, maybe not one that is going to be very high, but it is going to be there.

Australia is also one of the country that have positive attitude towards bitcoin along with japan. Bitcoin is booming almost everywhere and in my country Nepal it have got lots of attention even from a small level businessman. Few of my relatives are asking me to guide them to buy few bitcoins to save for their future.

i read some comments that Australian government was talking about removing taxes on bitcoin once and forall. maybe that is the cause of this recent growth over there. 0 tax is always attracting!

People have been trading bitcoin in Aus since it was created, you're a bit slow if you think otherwise.. By it's very nature, anyone with an internet connection has access to it, always helpful when some semi-celebrity shares the news and it filters through to the mainstream.

Even over here, there are several people using bitcoin over here that I know while several others that I dont know but because the media over here is just keeping quiet over the matter which I feel by the time they wake up from their slumber, then it will seems its just a new way of 'making money' but at that time, a lot of people including myself will just sit back and laugh because we have heard and involved several years before the outbreak of the boom they are all expecting.

That is an interesting thing to consider if correct, I have always thought that the move from Japan of accepting bitcoin is motivated in part to try to bring money to its country due to the difficult economic situation that country faces, I think it is the most indebted country in terms of the size of the debt against their economy, if you are correct then it would seem Australia is trying to do the same.

I never thought this thread was about bitcoin in australia. All I was thinking before I went on to open this was "oh no.. prices plummeted again better check the graphs." And I actually did and saw that it was still stable at $2,400 - $2,500. lol Anyway, great to see that people over there are beginning to recognize bitcoins too. I hope more and more countries follow the footsteps of japan.

it is not old, it actually is exactly today's news! so when OP created this topic it was future news Australia said they will end the double taxation of bitcoin on July 1st and also add a budget for "fintech accelerator program" which is something they are doing. i am not sure how the taxation will work but you can find the news about it on news sites.

That will be actually great for Australia if they would end it starting today the double taxation then there would be so much people that's gonna be interested of what bitcoin can do, and even if the price drop there are so many reasons to rejoice this day because it will be the day to start a new record for the impending event that is about to happen and I wish we could reach the $3000 mark value before that day!

We will see a rise in the price of bitcoin definitely if the Australian government accepts bitcoin. Bitcoin price rise and drops on a very simple formula i.e Bitcoin demand high= Bitcoin price high and the vice versa. So being optimistic about the price after the Australian acceptance makes a sense. Determining how much the price can raise is not easy to stat but there will be upsizing of price.

I hope Australia will help bring Bitcoin back from this period of uncertainty into the $3000 levels again. There's also Russian acceptance on the horizon. THese two would make a huge difference.

Yes, people are using bitcoin everywhere in the world where they have access to the internet. The individuals have already accepted and adopted bitcoin because they see it more convenient to them than the conventional money. But what affects more the position and power of bitcoin is when a government accepts it, such as the Japanese government when accepted bitcoin the price was on a boom.
