ICOs (Initial Coin Offerings) have become a popular way to fund cryptocurrency projects. An ICO is an event in which a new cryptocurrency project sells part of its cryptocurrency tokens to early adopters and enthusiasts in exchange for money today. ICOs provide a way for cryptocurrency project creators to raise money for their operations. Most ICOs raise money in Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.

The ICO usually takes place before the project is completed, and helps fund the expenses undertaken by the founding team until launch. For some of the larger projects, part of the ICO money goes into a foundation that provides ongoing support to the project. They also work as an initial distribution model for the cryptocurrency tokens, especially those with a proof of stake consensus algorithm.

The ICO participants are invested in the success of the project. They can help get the word out and raise awareness in the broader community. They also provide early liquidity for the cryptocurrency tokens when they start trading. Negative sides:
1. Lots of scams.
2. One group can buy their own tokens and create artificial  demand so others will rush to join. This ends dumping at the ico price and below and investors are not even aware that this is happening.
3. Projects without future, created to collect funds for something that is obsolete or is not good idea at the first place.
4. ETH based tokens can be dangerous for ETH and ETH can be even more dangerous for them..

At the end of this story everything is hands of managers how they are going to use this potential, this leaves a lot of space for human errors.

I think it is the minimum fund target and maximum fund target. When soft cap reached the project can still continue but it will be much better if they reached themax for it fully development of the project.

Yeah , This is a type of crowd funding as an investment . In the current time ICOs meaning is to collect money by selling Thier tocken .
Currently most of the people are making the coins and selling the tocken before launching the coin , so in this way without development they are selling Thier coins .
Most of the ICOs are not much profitable , so it will be more better that first make lots of analysis before invest in such types of project .
