Hi everyone

I hovered my mouse over the bottom right hand corner of my bitcoin qt wallet on opening it today, and it says
Last received block was generated 11 days ago.
Please can someone tell me in novice terms, what that means?
I have not done anything with my wallet since early march, except for opening it up and letting it sync itself, but I forget when that was.

Thanks

As transaction occur, blocks are generated for those transactions.  These blocks are basically layered on top of each other, and to know about all transactions, you need to have the entire block history.

So what it means or what you're client is telling you is the last block in its history is over 11 days old, generally this should read in the minutes range.  Normally the client will catch itself up just by leaving the client open for awhile (progress bar at the bottom).  If you're leaving it open and nothing is occurring, check that you're not blocking IRC connections.

You sure you don’t have background syncing turned on, if so you can change it to sync only on wifi.

Hi thanks
It's now saying last block was generated 21 secs ago.
It didn't seem to show the progress bar and sync either today, although it no longer says out of sync.

Please could you tell me how to go about  checking I'm not not blocking IRC connections.

Thanks

Hi

Normaly, it syncs when I open the client, takes a while though.
It hasn't done this today.
Thanks

Primrose,

If you have a green check box in the lower right of the client, you should be all synced up.  The more you keep the client open, the more it will remained sync.  If you keep it off for a few days, just be ready to wait a bit for it to fully sync back up, and then you good to roll again.
