What kind of name is Maciek or Maciej to you? Language QUESTION

Hi,

Well my name is Maciek or Maciej.
My question is - does it mean anything in your language? If yes - what? Or is it similar to something?

There is a translation of Maciej. In english Maciej = Matthias = Maciek

we have a Polish friend named maciek but we just call im mac

I find looking at the way words are spent gives me a good idea where they are from - so even without understanding the word, I have an idea where its from.

Before finishing reading the post above, I thought it was Eastern European, but I couldn't have said which country it was from.

I have learnt a little Polish, (hello goodbye etc) seeing that most of Poland has or is moving to the UK!

I find it a very interesting language although I find the food even better!
