We all know about the scarce availability of some cards, video card prices have increased, plus it seems the less expensive ones are GONE...you are left having to buy the version with all the bells and whistles https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/cryptocurrency-mining-graphics-card-prices/this website provides a list, but is this accurate: MSRPNeweggAmazonTigerDirect NvidiaGTX 1080Ti $700 $700 $700 $762 Nvidia GTX 1080 $550 $530 $500 $582 Nvidia GTX 1070 $380 $658 $700 $500 Nvidia GTX 1060 $250 $400 $400 $375 (6gb) Nvidia GTX 1060 $200 $357 $243 $230 (3gb) AMD RX 580 $230 $600 $700 Out of Stock AMD RX 570 $170 $500 $650 No listing AMD RX 560 $100 $100 $110 $117 If the above is not accurate...what were the prices before the buying surge happened? I can't believe the AMD cards are that jacked up... We have to go back about 6 months (when ethereum was $40/$50)...that's when prices were normal... So here is the big question, when do you think, prices will return to normal?

the question is always about demand / availibility - i got 1070s for their normal price of € 459,-- and just after the order got confirmed and the dealer was out of stock he raised the price to € 589,-- for the same card with 1-2 weeks delivery time saw many dealers now which raised their prices for 1070s or RX4xx/5xx by 20-25% - if you see the cards available they are directly sold out again few hours later - so as long people pay that crazy high prices, the dealers would be stupid not to take that extra money

Most of the seller now are out of stock or selling limited number of GPU with high price. This scarcity begun when price of ETH pump too high.

this website provides a list, but is this accurate:
MSRPNeweggAmazonTigerDirect NvidiaGTX 1080Ti $700 $700 $700 $762 Nvidia GTX 1080 $550 $530 $500 $582 Nvidia GTX 1070 $380 $658 $700 $500 Nvidia GTX 1060 $250 $400 $400 $375 (6gb) Nvidia GTX 1060 $200 $357 $243 $230 (3gb) AMD RX 580 $230 $600 $700 Out of Stock AMD RX 570 $170 $500 $650 No listing AMD RX 560 $100 $100 $110 $117

Can't speak to Amazon or Tiger, but the prices are reasonably close for MSRP and NewEgg was at or a little UNDER MSRP for their "lowest priced card on sale" as of 3-4 months back before the shortage began.

That's not far off. I checked what I'd paid for some cards back in Jan/Feb a little while ago and saw 470s @ $150 and 480s @ ~$200 but those included rebates on top of that, so the prices listed are on the high side. A 580 is probably retail value for gaming about $200 so they're running at about 250% markup IF you can find one for sale, which is insane. I've bought a few 1080tis since the surge because their prices have stayed pretty stable and they were for my main desktop anyway so I justified it that they were for games as well, during downtime, although I find it hard to bring myself to play a game now knowing that i'm losing money by playing

Do you think the "mining only" cards that are being released will help bring the GPU prices back to normal?

Do you think the "mining only" cards that are being released will help bring the GPU prices back to normal?
Only if they show up in fairly large quantities. 10k a month won't have a noticeable effect, 100k should have SOME effect, 300k a month WILL push pricing back down towards normal.

Only if they show up in fairly large quantities. 10k a month won't have a noticeable effect, 100k should have SOME effect, 300k a month WILL push pricing back down towards normal. Only if people buy them over standard cards too though. Newbies and farms might but more well researched folks will probably avoid them. As such I expect to see a very slow ramp up to production on them because the manufacturer's don't want a glut of inventory sitting on their hands, so they'll only push them out as much as they can forecast demand. I think we'll see them boom, then taper to a niche segment and will probably continue to see some price pressure on standard GPUs. There's little manufacturer's can do to truly dissuade people from using a standard GPU over a "mining" GPU, unless they start to hobble the "standard" cards in hardware against mining, which would (I'd think) cause a massive loss of reputation from the manufacturers. Although knowing how corporate thought processes go, I could see that being a next step. They obviously don't want to pay the increased RMA costs associated with mining stresses, but I'd think they also don't want to lose a massive customer base that's making them considerable profits. I suspect rising difficulty and an eventual larger scale price correction will have more to do with sane pricing coming back over the impact these (for now) very limited power and quantity cards will have.

Actually if you pre-order, you can buy most RX5xx at prices that are very close if not the same as they were before the surge. Last week I received an order of 6x 570s I had purchased at ~200$ end of may. The shop had no stock, but that's the price they were selling them for. My order went into pre-order and a month later I got my stuff. AFAIK, some stock is on it's way, at least over here.

I remember that the exact same thing happened last year. Poor gamers, I think they will have to suffer each year from now ! More seriously, I think that we will not see normal price for a long time ! New motherboard are coming into the market, then there will be Black Friday and after this Christmas. In October there might a short calm timespan, but that will be before the storm of the end of the year !

I don't believe AMD and nVidia aren't willing to jump on the opportunity and "flood" the market with GPUs, not to mention they both made dedicated mining GPUs that should be available soon. This is just pure speculation but I think within the next 2 months things will get back to sort-of normal.

Nvidia has P106 card that is without video output. It is only for mining, low TDP and waranty only one year. I think amd will do the same next months.

It will be a big mistake of them to make that gpu , they will sell at first but after the gaming one is out and stock all ppl will buy the gaming not the mining , because it holds a resell value and thats the key they don't understand , just increase the production of the gaming cards nVidia it's not that hard.

We just need more of these cards and I am sure price will stabilize then. The problem is that miners are not caring that much if a GPU is for gaming or not as long as it is good for mining. I as a miner will be very happy to see a lot of different kinds of these cards so my focus will be only here and not pay a premium for a graphic card like I am doing right now, paying 350 Euro for a RX 570 which normal price should be 199-240 Euro.

NVidia and AMD probably figure that if they sell ANY of the mining-specific cards, the "crash" won't impact their sale of NEW cards as hard because very few of the mining-specific cards will find buyers as used cards. They increase production of the regular "gaming cards" now, they're going to have a hard time selling ANYTHING in a few months or a year or whenever the crash happens - AMD got hammered by that for a good year or so after the Litecoin craze/crash. The issue LAST year when the Polaris and GTX 10xx cards were still new was "production ramp up" limits, NOT the same thing at all. It does look like the pressure is starting to ease though, GTX 1070 availability is increasing and prices have started dropping back down towards "2 months back" pricing on at least SOME models. Not sure how much of that is shipments of the "mining specific" cards and how much is "profitability is crashing quite a bit the last 2 weeks" though.

I think if there is no enough mining only cards, the price will not go lower.
