blockchain.info wallet + Trezor for offline storage?

Been doing a lot of reading on the wallets and offline storage in the last few weeks here on this forum. Even got to talk to traders who offer BTC at a good rate just today. So that is good.

My question is when I buy BTC should I have it go to my blockchain right away or have it go to the Trezor? And are the fees different for each system?  What if I am not online at the time I get the BTC sent to the Trezor will it come once I log on or how would this all work out? I think blochchain.info is great from what I read as others seem to lock people and lose their BTC so why risk it. Also Trezor is like 89 euros on their website but on Amazon it's like $242 for it. Plus I like the features it has.

since for both blockchain.info and trezor wallet you are controlling the private keys and both have transactions on chain, then you decide the fees and the wallets only suggest an appropriate fee. so there is no difference. but the suggested fee may be different if their code is not well written but as i said you can change how much you pay easily.

if you find Trezor to your liking then go for it. it is better than a web wallet like blockchain.info and make sure to make a backup from its recovery phrase or seed. and learn how to use it before buying and sending a large amount of bitcoin to it.

You should probably move this fist to Service Discussion -> Web wallets.

fees are not different, because both of these wallets you control your own private keys with, and the miners fee is not charged by the compaines themselves but rather by the bitcoin network. If you are not online at the time of receiving bitcoin, then as soon as you do come online it'll be readily available on your wallet, no matter blockchain.info or trezor.

Trezors are obviously more expensive but it's designed for if you have more than say 10 bitcoins. If you have less, go with blockchain.info. It's free, although it's only as secure as your pc, whilst trezor has extra protection like having to press physical keys to confirm transactions.

First, a bit of terminology correction. You don't have a blockchain, you have a wallet from blockchain.info, which is a bitcoin exchange company that has specialized in publicly displaying the blockchain transactions. The blockchain exists using the bitcoin core software (which you can find a download link for at the top of this screen...it's available to anyone who wants to download it.)

Whether you should keep your funds in your online blockchain.info wallet or in your Trezor wallet depends largely on how much security of your coins you believe you need every day and how frequently you plan to draw on the existing balance for any transactions. Blockchain.info likely is more convenient for daily spending, but offers lower security (because it's an online wallet). The opposite is true of both characteristics for Trezor.

And are the fees different for each system? 

Possibly. Most of the fees are linked to the transaction and charged by the miner(s) confirming your transaction, not the wallet, but the online Blockchain.info wallet could have additional transaction fees (if so they'd be listed on their website). Trezor does not impose any transaction fees.

Yes. It will appear when you log on and sync that Trezor to the blockchain. There are other online wallets which are compatible with the Trezor and will allow you to set up a "watch only" wallet linked to your Trezor bitcoin address, so you can monitor your Trezor balance from your phone without having to log into your Trezor. In my opinion it is definitely worth it to spend the extra $100 and buy the Trezor or even the ledger, depending on what you like more.

No, the transaction fees charged aren't different at all because it is not really charged by them at all. It is charged by the bitcoin network for confirming your transaction, and wallets simply give you a recommendation, nothing else.

If you get sent bitcoin when you're not on your wallet, simply go to blockchain.info and use their block explorer to check the TXID. If it shows that it has hit your wallet then as soon as you check your wallet, it should be in there.

if you are online and send the BTC to a Trezor generated address, as far as I know, it will come and be added to balance as soon as it is sent, I don't recommend using a blockchain.info wallet for offline storage, considering there are minor possibility of risk.
Using Armory is the best software to generate secure offline wallets, paper or for regular use.

Jherek - No idea how to move this? Very nice so if I am not online it gets there perfect!    I see so Trezors if more then 10 BTC and if less then blockchain.info yeah I don't want them to be locked or frozen by blockchain.info as I have read but it sure sounds super safe the only problem is it might be slow to transfer at times I have read as long as it gets there it's fine. Yeah secure PC part.... I'll go with physical key.

HabBear - Very nice on that one confusing for a new person at the start but I get what you mean. So that's how the fees are calculated it's what I figured after watching a video a few months ago but was thinking each wallet had their own transfer service/fees I guess not. Very nice phone app!

I dont think you can use blockchain.info with a Trezor. But you can use a chrome addon developed by them or the Electrum desktop wallet with a Trezor which is much better.

Can I ask why you want blockchain.info specifically?

It doesn't really matter if you first send the BTC to blockchain.info wallet or Trezor it's just a question of convenience and probably saving a bit of fee. If you are planning to store all the BTC in trezor then no point in sending to blockchain as you would again need to send them to trezor with your own fees. What I would suggest is keep some BTC in blockchain wallet if you are going to spend that Bitcoin occasionally, and use trezor only for cold storage, do not use blockchain to store large amounts of BTC.
Now, if you are concerned about the price of trezor you can explore other cold store options, my favorite one is a paper wallet and best thing about it is that absolutely free.

pinkflower - Sure it's just that from reading I've noticed a lot of people being locked out of their own wallets for whatever reasons. I was also signed up with coinbase a few weeks ago but canceled it cause my credit card verification was taking longer then what I was thinking. Then I had googled to find answers and landed on this website and noticed problems and locked with funds etc. So I said no thank you. Probably fraud scammers or whatever. After reading everyone I didn't hear of anyone crying about blockchain.info doing this to them at all. Those little private companies I wouldn't trust at all.

jtipt - Oh yeah I know not to leave large amounts of BTC on there. I was wondering if blockchain.info then move it to the Trezor cause it's all online for the world to see as too how many BTC one has in an account. So it's private in a way but not 100% private. But you can always get more Trezors and spread it out. I've ran into people who I seen had 1500 BTC and haven't moved them in years. And just keeps on growing. So I figured maybe who ever would send wouldn't see this. Privacy you know? But then again they can follow the btc if they really wanted too. Plus everyone always posting their BTC Address for the world to view. After 5 or 7 clicks you'll see huge amounts at times. So easy to find them no? Sure won't know who they are but you are getting closer. I personally want to invest into it or even trade it later on to make a profit.

Yeah paper wallet is a great thing looks so sweet. God forbid the house burns down. Still a risk but hey it's free right? lol

Like other said both you have power to backup and export your private keys that you can import any wallet you want..
If you are looking for most safety wallet trezor is a good choice because its immune to viruses and keylogger than choosing blockchain..
If you are comparing fees of both wallet i think they are just the same and all transaction or always depends in the transaction size..
So if you want to safety hold your bitcoin for a long time and offline choose trezor for better choice..

Coinbase have been running in the US for a long time.  They are not scammers, but you'll find that almost no online Bitcoin service which handles your money is 100% reliable.

There is no reason to do this.

Your TREZOR is a very user-friendly way to hold and spend Bitcoin.  There's no point in passing all your funds through Blockchain.info first - you're just wasting your time and money.  

If you want privacy, you're missing the point.  The blockchain is a publicly accessible ledger containing all transactions ever sent - this includes the transaction sent from your blockchain.info wallet to your TREZOR.  The way to remove the association between your transaction and you is by using mixers (and of course there are many other methods as well, don't expect to be 100% private unless you really know what you're doing).

Well if you're going to be owning a Trezor, I think your best bet is going to be just avoding any sort of web wallet all together and going all in on the trezor when it comes to usage. Why expose yourself to risk if you're going to be buying a $89 device which is pretty much there to help you avoid all the risk that comes with using these online wallets which are so prone on being hacked (given inside job or just a downright fucking hack)

So I wouldn't use the two of them, you're going to be just wasting money and exposing yourself to risk which is dumb when you have the Trezor. Use that and be done with all of this.

Iranus - Not scammers but sure are taking forever and read the horror stories lately. I think this weke I seen a lot of posts from Poloniex problems left and right. Just every month it's a newer company doing it. I read it got freaked out about coinbase and 7 to 10 days no code on my credit card so I bailed and said screw them! Yup none are 100% reliable, the e-wallets, and most of all those BTC cards. First 3 to 8 months all great then down hill with all them BTC.

Yeah it's fine in the private part. Got nothing to hide anyways. (Just didn't like those 3rd party users who want ID etc from 3rd world countries god knows what they do with it, read negatives of scammers wanting just the ID more then your money).
