I always appreciate the fact that Japan is now becoming a big leader for Bitcoin legalization and grassroots adoption. I am sure that this can be a big boost for many people to be part of the Bitcoin nation. Though some problem can persist like low sales coming from Bitcoin users, I do hope that these merchants will not easily give-up until such time that we can achieve a mainstream use of the digital currency. Right now, speculation is the name of the game which is kinda holding back many from using their coins to buy anything.
Japan is now becoming like a shining armor for Bitcoin. The government has already recognized Bitcoin and the legal framework which to work has already been clarified. Soon, this county will reap the many benefits that cryptocurrency can bring into the table as it would stimulate more fintech companies to sprout and base their operations in Japan.

I doubt any store would openly accept bitcoin and wait for hours just to confirm customer payment. Imagine the line queues. LOL What a joke. Bitcoin is not for store transactions. Litecoin is the way to go.

Don't bash, it's a good start. Bitcoin payment is great for online stores or hotels. They have to start with something. Then they'll learn and use other coins too (LTC, ETH, XMR, ..) and meanwhile Bitcoin will evolve too.

Why they must wait for hours? There are plenty of options to instantly confirm a payment made in a store. One of them is BitGo Instant: https://www.bitgo.com/solutions#instantHowever, this implementation will be a step forward for Bitcoin.

Yeah just imagine all the double-spending scams and other funky business that could ensue from accepting Bitcoin payments in restaurants and coffee shops lol. I wonder how many cold coffees will be served due to waiting for TX to confirm

i'm wondering if with that massive adoption, japanese are fine with the current fee situation for bitcoin, i guess they ar enot using it other than buying expensive items on the web or in phisical store
otherwise it's onyl a myth that bitcoin can not get adopted because of high fee, i guess bitcoin can work fine for expensive stuff only and gather a big market and not a niche one like we believed in the past

I don't understand why you limit it. Bitcoin can be good for both cases. This is an invented choice we don't need to make. Just take care of the tx fees and time and Bitcoin is equally good for all payments.

Woohoo! More merchants is always good news for bitcoin. It's great to see though that an already established payment processor in japan is seeking to implement bitcoin. Not only does it make the transition much smoother from fiat only to fiat and bitcoin, it also means that it's not foreign to people that were already using this protocol. In my opinion, it's not surprising that this is happening either. The japanese government has shown an acceptance towards the usage of bitcoin in its country by cutting on taxing. Australia is probably going to follow in japan's footsteps as well by the looks of it.

Well this is no surprise at all. Specially Japan has legalized bitcoin so it makes sense for them to open up a lot of stores that will give customers the option to use Yen or bitcoin. Japan is really leading the way for bitcoin to be really mass adopted. They are like setting a precedence on how to treat/use bitcoin by a country. This is really a positive news for bitcoin and I believed that it has somewhat push the price to more in the future. Bitcoiin enthusiast should all move to Japan. LOL.

I really want to go to Japan because i want to test if they are really accepting bitcoin as a payment to their stores and i want to buy a lot of items from their country using bitcoin only and i want to know if i can go into hotels and buy some foods with only bitcoin as a payment method. I hope our country will also the same so i don't need to go to Japan and just spend my bitcoins here.

Bitcoin is BIG in Japan. After its legalization, adoption has continued to grow at an alarming rate. It's good news to hear that hundreds of thousands of stores will start accepting btc. The only downside is the fee plus long confirmation times. It's time China fully legalized bitcoin as well. All in all...btc is still at it's infancy. It will explode fully in a few years time.

This is the power of blockchain innovation into modern systems of Point of Sale. These eyeglass stores are actually huge throughout Asia so it's going to spread soon and fast all over the continent. Huge huge huge deal, anyone trying to downplay this is part of the establishment.

it has started the day Japan announced bitcoin as a legal way of payment. then it speed up the process the day they said they will remove taxes on bitcoin payment and the removal of it 4 days ago was the final blow. Expect the price of [...] ETH to moon launch.
and why exactly is that? Japan adopted bitcoin. bitcoin is legal bitcoin is being used as a method of payment bitcoin is a currency what does ETH has to do with anything here?!!! is this your new way of advertising ETH in the main board and not have your topics removed

A very good news in during these days of consolidation. Bitcoin being accepted in a developed country is a good sign for tourist who don't want to convert their Fiat currency into Yen. Now the question is will the acceptance of Bitcoin mean tourist will start to use Bitcoin there? I hope it is in order to affect its price. It can make a world wide awareness all together when other countries join Japan like Russia, and South Korea. A country that is leading in tech development will show that they are even up to date in the cryptocurrency world.

Deploying a chain of stores to accept as a payment for bitcoins, Japan once again confirmed that it is at the head of countries that are innovating in their country of technological progress. At the same time, such a step is a good signal for other countries, which still doubt the seriousness of bitcoin and its prospects. So this is in any case a good news for the victorious march of bitcoin on the planet.

I would prefer to use BTC directly even if I have to wait for transaction to go through instead of converting it to fiat and then paying fees on top of that and most people shop online so waiting time shouldn't be an issue.

That would be awesome, but lets look at some commentaries below the article: We'll see. Honestly, despite the increased interest in Japan in the past 6 months, I've not come across a single shop that accepts Bitcoin (apart from Bic Camera & a few bars where they have the BTC meetups).
I guess we need to wait for the interest in bitcoin. Time does wonders I would say. Thats a good start and maybe its some foundation. Such a things grow like a tidal wave. If enough of shops will do the same, the rest must do the same.
