I randomly bought a RX 470 4gb for gaming last year, and recently found out its been heavily used for mining.
I took an interest in altcoin trading and just all around learning about BTC/Cryptocurrencies a while back but never got into mining.
Was wondering if I can setup to start mining (even if for low profit) with just my normal PC/GPU and slowly work my way into more GPU's.
I might even be able to straight up buy another one with money I had saving for a better gaming pc anyways.

Sure can, just download the nicehash miner and let it run through benchmarking.  Then just hit start and away it will go.  Or alternatively, you can download a miner for whatever coin you would like to mine and set it up, but the nicehash miner is probably easiest if your just starting to learn about it.

Of course you can start mining with it. I think you probably are a gamer, so let it run a week or two using Nicehash miner, and you will be able to buy the game you were dreaming of with what you produced !

I actually wanna fully reinvest whatever I can get my hands on.
Would buying another one (GPU) straight away be better/more efficient?
Do I need a better PSU/Cooler's?

okay you have 1 card an rx 470

what is your motherboard?
what is you cpu?
what is your ram?
what is your psu?
what does power cost you?
lastly a wired ethernet is far better the wifi so do you have an ethernet connection?

the rx 470 will make money for you

and cards are very hard to get since people are mining a lot.

Yea i know Gpus are hard to get atm, but if it was worth it I would try.
My mobo/processors are very much so basic, and would be willing to invest in better ones for this.

I started running the NiceHash Miner to see how it goes, its making ~2.25 USD/day, is that the normal value for this gpu?
Is it because I'm running other things meanwhile?

2.25$ is a good start now. But if you mine using nicehash with this rate, it may take you about two weeks to get paid  Wink You should try to mine ETH directly. Grin

You answered two out of five questions that Philip asked you. Seeing that you pasted a basically irrelevant image, I'm assuming you have no idea what components your PC has. Look them up. Then come back and we'll try to answer your previous questions for you.

Starting to mine with one gpu is like having one tattoo..
You're almost certainly bound to add few more 😁

..and yes, speaking from experience, on both ends.

Well I thought it showed more there, but the only one I can't really answer atm is the mobo.
What I can tell you for sure is that its bad and only has one PCI-Ex slot, I know I'll have to get a better one if I want more GPU's, thats why I thought it was irrelevant.
Energy is also irrelevant, pretty cheap here and I don't have to pay for it atm.
My ram is 4gb and CPU also shows there, GPU is rx 470 4gb and I have a wired ethernet.

Whats with mining directly? I honestly just wanted to get started so I downloaded NiceHash which seemed easy enough to get set up, but I'm looking for the most efficient ways to do this.
edit: Oh and yeah, I got my first tattoo 5 months ago and am already looking for the next one, so I know what awaits me Smiley
edit2: how much should I expect out of my RX 470? I mean I heard some people saying it pays itself within 2 or 3 months, but at 2,25/day it might take a lot longer..

3 months = 90

90 x 2.25 = 202.50    that is what a 470 used to cost.

prices are sky high..

and you did not tell me what you mobo is or your cpu or your ram or your psu

so Better luck  somewhere other then me for advice.

I told you the mobo was irrelevant because I was going to buy a new one anyways (since mine only has one PCI-ex).
And I did tell you my RAM (4gb ddr3) and also CPU (i3 4150 3.5ghz).
The PSU is a coolermaster 400mhz.

Should I be overclocking my gpu?

Can you please explain what do I need to put 5-6 gpus working together? I mean what motherboard, power supply and some special connectors for gpus? Thanks in advance!

He didnt mentioned about those component but we can assume that its indeed a gaming set-up since he do have rx 470 4gb VC since mining altcoin doesnt really require a powerful motherboard and doesnt need too much ram, the main concern here is the electricity cost and also the PSU. Ive seen some people using rx 470 but they do have 7 pcs which turns out to be profitable compared having on a solo miner.

Definitely... I began with a single Geforce 1080 in February & I'm up around the 100 mark on GPUs now, haha.

Although, I am treating it like a hobby with the potential for profit... I am not counting on that money.

Right now I just realy wanna know more about those "flashing bios" things they're talking about, overclocking my GPU and how/where I can get the most profit out of my card.

edit: Tried r/ethermining and everyone there are saying I'm too late and nobody is making ROI? are they too negative or are they right?
I also calculated my electricity cost and in dollars is something like 0,15/kvwh, is that too much?

I had the same experience. i started from one, now have 6.

Used a gaming rig to mine sometimes while sleeping. Saw my wallet on that coin recently and wished I went all out back then. So yeah start out mining small to get a feel for how it works before building a new PC purely for mining when not gaming.

you don't have an roil on the rig you own.  it was purchased for play.

you can mine about 250 sols for zec which is about 2.00 -2.25 a day  your power is about 5 kwatts a day  or 75 cents so you would clear 1.25 to 1.50 a day

Mine with that for a month and be full of  patience loo for new gear.  At the moment gear is really fucking costly.

But you don't need any gear at all to be making say $1.50 a day.

Its better to use that GPU solely on gaming because if you decide to mine using that then expect you wont able to run your gaming pc because it will surely hang up when you use it unless if you have a spare gpu and also its possible to start on just gpu but it would be a waste of time because the amount to gain isnt really worth on your gpu cost and together with electricity cost.

Noone explained to me what that "bios thing" is, and if I need to overclock my gpu.

one of my PC  is used both for mining and playing wow, no hang ups  ... i think I had some at first but i also don't mine and game at the same time.

I forget what i did to stop it,  I don't any more and use a Modded bios... that card is a RX 480 4gb ... i have total of 10 cards between four rigs now , working on getting a 1080 ti, i hope in a month I'll enough saved  for one ...

Noone explained to me what that "bios thing" is, and if I need to overclock my gpu.

yea there is but you have to re flash the card with modded bios that card can hit 27 MH or higher with a tweaked/modded bios....

This gives just about all you need to know about flashing AMD cards with software links and any needed links.

https://anorak.tech/t/how-to-flash-a-amd-graphic-card-vbios/15

once you find out what card that is then go here https://anorak.tech/c/downloads

you may need to start a account . once you know your card, you want the bios that matches your card with memshift in the bios name,  you can see what your cards memory is by using this https://www.techpowerup.com/download/techpowerup-gpu-z/ then flash it and patch the AMD driver with this https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-AMD-ATI-Pixel-Clock-Patcher that's all you need after you install the driver, then your set . other thing unless it's set in the bios you have to set the memory clocked like 1900 MNZ and lower the core clock to 1100 to 1180 that should hit like 27 Mh for ETH mining .. with http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/msi-afterburner-beta-download.html .....  or what ever OC software you like to use .

last thought you can mine any alt coin GPU's can mine with any of those bios but will have to use after burner or some kind of over clock software and if you set up the bios just for eth Mining that coin might be all that card can do at a good speed ,I flashed mine with new memory settings and messed with some of the power setting but left the clocks alone in the bios, so i can use it with any coin, then overclock for ETH and ZEC as needed ,that way works fine for me ...

My AMD cards run at 27 to 29 MH depends which card and how much memory each card has for ETH and for ZEC they may hit 315 KH/Sol or a little lower for ZEC /Zcash mining . when you OC you have to find out the limits of that card the rest is fun ....

PS :< forgot i also use this software  it is really nice ... http://www.awesomeminer.com/ even the free version but after you use it while you will more then likely want more of the stuff unlocked ..but have to pay but it was worth it to me and so far that's a one time charge you get a lot and lots updates to keep it going with new stuff added for your unlock level at no charge, so far ....

Oyea I'm also mining ZENCASH but gonna try and hold on to them for a while, Ive made like 20 bucks mining them for over a week and a half ,with my little ten card farm sense, i can't find any more rx 400 or 500 at a good price why  not save for a 1080 ti that cost a little more then some of the RX 570 on sell now .
