It usuaully depends on how busy the devs are to valdate your applocation.There used to ne a check status page , but I forgot the url. Someone else in this forum should know it.

Enter in your information and you should be able to see whether or not you get accepted. As to the time it takes, it varies but they seem pretty quick to verify information. Obviously it does take a bit of time since they are manually reviewing all applications. I would be patient and you should be able to get some onions soon, hopefully.
