It is hard to say how Adex works from their whitepaper, but they admit that one cannot do admarket based on ethereum smart contracts that scale. We know that too, that's why we started with scalability. Adex plans to start work on their v2 scalable platform in 2019.
As for adchain, they try to establish directory of trusted publishers. It is hardly a competition for Adshares. In fact I see potential for cooperation. Adchain tokens do not seem to give holder any kind of dividend.
Adshares have custom blockchain built for scalability and our coins will collect dividend from fees paid by network users.
