Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

I do, but not at this quantity, it does nobody any favours for me to put up a big sell XRP wall, odds are incredibly high it would devalue XRP by a few percentage points. I regularly trade via ripple, indeed you bought quite a lot from me a couple of weeks ago via the market when you threw all that BTC in to XRP  |

...or are you scared of the new giveaways devaluing XRP more than it already has? Not even slightly. The ripple client was broken for about 24 hours so people were bidding blind, since it's been fixed price has corrected back to what it was and is heading in the right direction, as I'm sure you know. Also, "giveaways" will be ongoing and reduce in number, last was at 3k, expect 1k or 500 xrp giveaways from now on, hardly a concern.
