Actually going back ontopic a bit, the rise of cryptocurrencies could cause some pretty serious social problems if government controlled currencies fail. How will countries balance the books when they can't print money (quantitive easing) any more?

To me it would be a pandemic.  Don't see it coming, no way to cure it, no way to stop it.  Think Bubonic Plague times 1,000.  Death of the population would not be as swift as if an asteroid hit, but would linger where the fear would be as bad as the end result.
